What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dean of Students position at Subiaco Academy?
Subiaco Academy is looking for an individual who is committed to working with students in an independent, Catholic, boarding school, single-sex education environment. Candidates must have the desire to become part of a boarding school culture which includes not only responsibilities during the academic day, but may also include some dormitory supervision and occasional responsibilities outside the academic day.
The Dean of Students will be challenged to
- Demonstrate a passion for adolescent growth and development; for working with students, faculty, staff, the monastic community, and parents to build and sustain a vibrant and healthy school and student culture.
- Provide strategic direction, implementation, evaluation, and communication regarding all aspects of student life, using research and best practices to inform his work and ensuring it is consistent with the school’s mission and strategic vision.
- Promote high standards and expectations for student engagement, student leadership, personal integrity, and community responsibility.
- Design programs and activities for students and faculty that support the school’s commitment to student voice coupled with personal responsibility.
- Mentor the Student Services Team.
- Coordinate and/or participate in a speaker/education series related to college counseling for 9th and 10th graders and their parents.
- Uphold the Code of Conduct and community standards and expectations, and oversee the school’s response to violations.
- Teach when needed.
- Attend school events, as able, and connect with students, faculty, staff, the Monastic community, and parents to understand school life.
- Communicate important information to appropriate constituents frequently, in a timely and comprehensive manner.
- Serve as an advocate for students, addressing their individual needs and concerns.
Required background:
- Bachelor’s degree earned; graduate degree preferred.
- Minimum of five years of experience in education, as either a faculty member and/or administrative staff member.
- Experience managing multiple tasks or projects under deadlines.
- Strong written and oral communication skills with students, colleagues, and parents.
- Strong collaboration, team-oriented, and independent working skills.
- Strong computer skills and a demonstrated proficiency with Google applications.
- Critical listening skills.
- Experience managing others.

Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Medical benefits including health, dental, and vision are available. A retirement plan is available.
