Direct Support Professional
Purpose: To provide community based employment training & support and/or residential support for people with disabilities
Qualifications:
Education: Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent with a preference for additional post secondary course work
Experience: None
Special skills: Good communication and interpersonal skills; must be adaptable and detail oriented; good problem solving skills; ability to work independently; sensitive to individual needs of people with disabilities and needs of employers
Responsibilities:
1. Provide on & off the job training & support
2. Provide job related training, ie; transportation training, grooming, hygiene, social skills, coping with employment related stressors
3. Documentation
4. Network with employers and other professionals
5. Promote consumer safety on the job
6. Support people with disabilities in achieving their desired outcomes
7. Provide independent living supports to include menu planning, grocery shopping, healthcare & financial supports, as needed
8. Other duties assigned
