Job Description:
Under the direction of the Facilities Sr. Manager, Facilities Engineer II will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient operation and safety of the Casino / Hotel’s physical infrastructure and systems. Your primary responsibility will be to oversee and manage all engineering and repair activities within the Casino / hotel, ensuring a comfortable and safe environment for guests and staff. You will collaborate with various departments, vendors, and contractors to address maintenance issues, implement preventive maintenance programs, and undertake projects that enhance the Casino/ hotel's infrastructure. In addition, The Facilities Mechanic II will be responsible for assisting with the training and development of Facilities Mechanic I team members to prepare them for more complex work.
Core Responsibilities:
- Repairs: Conduct routine inspections, identify repair needs (including planned and emergency related repairs) and promptly address any issues related to the hotel's physical infrastructure, including fire/life safety, mechanical (HVAC, plumbing, controls), electrical (lighting, UPS, PDU, generators, primary switch gear), emergency backup systems and hot water system, high pressure boiler units, mechanical systems as well as all work associated with said repairs including relevant demolition, reconstruction, and cleaning of work area. Perform complex repairs, troubleshoot problems, and coordinate with external contractors when necessary.
- Preventive Diagnostics and Repairs: Develop and implement a comprehensive preventive diagnostic program to ensure the optimal functioning of all equipment and systems within the Casino/ hotel. Regularly inspect and service equipment, follow manufacturer guidelines, and maintain accurate records of repair activities including all elements associated with diagnosis and repairs. Make recommendations to the Facilities Sr. Manager and Director for replacement should maintenance of equipment is nearing life cycle end or is becoming inefficient.
- Safety and Compliance: Maintain a safe and secure environment for guests and employees by adhering to all relevant safety regulations, building codes, and industry standards. Conduct regular safety inspections, address potential hazards, and ensure the proper functioning of fire protection systems, emergency lighting, and other safety equipment. Work with Facilities Sr. Manager and Director to improve processes and develop industry leading safety protocols.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate closely with the hotel's management, operations, supervise outside contractors, as well as maintenance staff to address maintenance concerns, prioritize tasks, and provide technical support as needed. Foster a positive and cooperative work environment, encourage teamwork, and provide training and guidance to new staff members.
- Record Keeping and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of diagnostic and repair activities, equipment inventory, and maintenance performed. Prepare regular reports on maintenance expenses, project updates, and equipment performance. Assist in budgeting processes by providing insights and recommendations related to engineering and maintenance needs. Utilize Management repair tracking hardware and software and input appropriate metrics as required.
- Training: Proactively improve technical skills and stay up to date with new technology through training resources available both internally and externally as well as available through the IUOE training courses to maintain skill sets and licensing, if applicable. Work with leadership to develop Facilities Mechanic I team members to prepare them for more complex work.
- Performing routine inspections around the building to identify potential issues such as structural damage, windows, and door issues.
- Repairing broken or leaking plumbing to avoid water damage and restore full use of water fixtures including relevant demolition, reconstruction, and cleaning of project staging area as required.
- Test and Diagnose the building heating equipment for possible repairs to keep climate control in the facility functioning properly.
- Operation of relevant tools and machinery necessary to perform duties as directed. IUOE Facilities Engineers in this role performing work assignments in their course of duties shall perform minor tasks commonly performed by another craft in order to complete the major assignment. For illustrative purposes, such minor tasks include but are not limited to: removing conduit or electrical wiring once an electrician has made sure the power has been turned off during a major renovation assignment; touching up paint, installing molding, repair and painting of retaining walls, doorways, repair of HVAC vents, plumbing related work, as well as any cleanup and demolition required to commence and complete the work assignment.

Qualifications/Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent degree required.
- Minimum of 3-5 years previous experience in general maintenance/repair for commercial facility required.
- Must be able to obtain a New York State Gaming License.

- Must have general knowledge of the use of equipment used in building trades.
- Strong knowledge of building systems, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical systems.
- Familiarity with applicable building codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards
- Ability to understand and follow OSHA guidelines.
- Ability to stand, crouch, and climb to perform repairs, use ladders, and perform various types of manual labor.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Visual acuity sufficient for reading, performing repairs, and painting.
- Weekends, Holidays, and swing shifts may be required.
- Must be able to obtain a New York State Gaming License.
- This position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement between the Museum and International Union of Operating Engineers Local Union 30, AFL-CIO. New hires will be required to join the union.
- Acquire and maintain any licensure requirements as needed to carry out the functions of the position.
