Pharmacy Director:

The Pharmacy Director is responsible for the operation and management of the Pharmacy Department.


Position Summary:

With a Quality, Customer First, and Compassionate approach, The Pharmacy Director will:

  • Determine the objectives of the department, plan, organize, and direct general pharmacy policies and procedures.
  • Establish satisfactory methods of drug distribution and control.
  • Prepare prescriptions for patients as prescribed by providers with assistance of pharmacy technicians.
  • Ensure billing for in house plans, runs monthly reports. Analyze records to indicate prescribing trends and excessive usage.
  • Prepare pharmacy budget and department report required by clinic administrators.
  • Ensure deposits are completed daily and the cash drawer is balanced.
  • Review and submit outstanding Medicaid claims.
  • Oversee inventory process.
  • Review annual patient satisfaction surveys pertaining to pharmacy issues.
  • Maintain drug file in Pharmacy computer, develop and maintain pricing strategy.
  • Assist patients with Medicare Part D/Social Security Applications.
  • Manage oversight and compliance of Patient Assistance programs.
  • Coordinate Patient Assistance program audit.
  • Plan and implement procedures in the pharmacy according to clinic policies and legal requirements.
  • Reconcile third party checks, call PBM’s regarding any problems/discrepancies in payments.
  • Assist in the development of Policy and Procedure manual.
  • Assist in pharmacy/EMR interface.
  • Interview, select and supervise the activities of the department staff.
  • Determine job objectives, work methods, and performance standards, review staff performance relative to departmental objectives, communicate salary changes, promotions, transfers, discipline, and discharge and administer all other personnel actions.
  • Keep employees informed of matters affecting their work, interpret and explain clinic policies and procedures, department objectives, operations, services, organization budget, and seek comments and suggestions from employees.
  • Ensure completion of new hire OJT training for staff.
  • Seek compliance with outside agencies relevant to requirements for maintenance of services. Assure that professional competence of staff is maintained through education. Plan for both short- and long-range goals of the department in concert with the organizational plan of the clinic.
  • Prepare, upon request, reports, and special studies, participate in and contribute to management and professional committees at all levels inside and outside of the clinic, stays informed of trends and changes inside and outside of the clinic which relate to assigned functions.
  • Facilitate and attend monthly P&T Committee Meetings. Help decide on medication formulary and updating the Refill Protocol.
  • Active part of the OOC Team. Attend weekly OOC reviews. Provide education about safe use of narcotics, naloxone kit use, and non-narcotic treatments at OOC group.
  • Oversight of medication grant funds (McKee, NCMC). Communicate and collect patient stories to share with grant funding group.
  • Maintain compliance of the 340B Program. Update 340B Procedure Manual and conduct self-audits and yearly external audit. Attend 340B Conference yearly to help support and understand 340B Program.
  • Conduct monthly Pharmacy Executive Team meeting. Help with oversight of meeting, completing minutes and follow-through of all content.
  • Recertify all Sunrise sites on the 340B database once a year with the assistance of the Authorizing Official, Sunrise CEO.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Degree in Pharmacy / Pharm D.
  • Current license to practice pharmacy in the State of Colorado
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience, or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred
