What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pilot Plant Technician position at Synthomer?
What are we looking for?
The Pilot Plant Technician supports the scale-up and development of new products. The main responsibilities include all aspects of preparing and running polymerization reactions including cleaning reactors, weighing up raw materials, charging batches, monitoring reactions and product testing. In addition, the position supports a commercial manufacturing process that includes raw material charging, vessel operation, product testing, and finished goods packaging.
What you’ll own in this role…
- Follow safe work practices and support safety goals/objectives
- Provide involvement in all aspects of manufacturing including raw material charging, vessel operation and packaging out of finished product
- Prepare, charge and monitor development and production batches
- Effectively communicate batch results, observations and discrepancies to the operations supervisor and engineers/chemists.
- Operate process control system (Delta V)
- Collect, record, and communicate experimental data
- Identify opportunities for improvement
- Perform in-process and final product testing
- Actively and effectively participate in a fast paced team environment
- Support ISO-9001 and RCMS compliance efforts
- Be an active member in the emergency response team
- Clean vessels in between batches as needed
- Assist with shipping and receiving functions when necessary
- Must follow all safety procedures, act in a safe manner at all times and have an understanding and awareness of chemicals and their nature, hazards, safety and health.
- Follow procedures to safely and efficiently operate process equipment including reactors, pre-emulsion vessels, degas vessels, heat exchangers, pumps, filtration devices, DCS, forklifts and other equipment related to manufacturing.
- Assist in the development of new processes and establishing procedures
What you’ll need to be successful…
- Capable of working in a high-paced environment while paying attention to detail.
- Ability to function effectively in a team environment and work independently as well.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to solve problems effectively and multitask.
- Able to handle up to 50 lbs and physical dexterity to assemble and operate polymerization reactors
- Constantly exposed or works around chemical processing conditions
- Constantly positions self to use/maintain processing equipment
- Motivated to learn new tasks, new concepts, new applications, etc.
- Working knowledge of MS Office applications
- Must be flexible in work duties and hours, since the position involves shift work and/or overtime
Qualifications that can set you apart …
- Experience working in a High Performance Work Team
- Familiar with ISO-9001, RCMS, and Process Safety Management
- Previous experience in process control computer operations
- General chemical laboratory experience
