What are the responsibilities and job description for the Coding Specialist- Outpatient position at SYRINGA HOSPITAL DISTRICT DBA SYRINGA HOSPITAL & CLINICS?
The primary responsibility of the Coding Specialist II is coding and charge capture for hospital services.
Essential Functions:
-Responsible for assigning appropriate ICD-10-CM diagnoses, and CPT-4 codes for services provided in the outpatient hospital and clinic setting.
-Evaluates provider and nursing documentation to ensure adequacy to support charges and for proper code assignment.
-Works with supervisor to provide follow-up education to providers and nurses regarding documentation needs as necessary.
-Data entry of all charges not auto-generated by EHR. Evaluation, with corrections as needed, of all auto-generated charges to ensure these are supported by appropriate documentation.
-Knowledge of, application of, and/or compliance with all billing and coding edits. Knowledge of LCD and NCD guidelines to ensure compliance with these and to provide education to departments that are affected by them.
-Other related duties as assigned.
