Network Systems Engineer Job Description

As an Network Systems Engineer, you will provide information technology network systems engineering support, development and services for TM Cobb and Haley bros company critical businesses and organization. Coordinating with leadership to identify all business network needs and provide solutions that service the user community effectively. Collaborating with other IT team personnel and business stakeholders to ensure security, performance, availability, and resilience of company-wide network operations through installation, configuration, setup, administration, and troubleshooting switches, routers, firewalls, and other network technologies, and tools, physical, virtual and cloud based.
Ensure users, devices and network systems security and efficient network operations for the companies eight (BP, RS, SB, SC, SK, RJ, RV, CC) physical locations, as well as the hybrid/ cloud networking service and tools. Work closely with IT personnel and employees to update networks, address network security breaches and help troubleshoot issues. Provide planning and documentation for problematic network situations creating procedures to restore company network systems to full functionality. Use coding skills to optimize and automate most network administrative activities. Participate in level II, III & Senior technical network resource in IT Special Projects (product rollouts, migrations, maintenance, upgrades, systems updates).
*This position can be either based in our Sacramento or Riverside location, servicing both our Northern and Southern California locations.
Duties and responsibilities:
Create, deploy, and serve as the point of escalation for managed network, & security
Design, maintain and administer hybrid computer network devices and services includingAS400, VPNs, routers, switches, and other physical and virtual networking systems.
Perform network maintenance and upgrades (security patching, firmware updates, hotfixes, security config).
Install, configure, secure, and troubleshoot hybrid networks and network equipment(physical and virtual).
Create firewall rules, and update virus protection software and data security systems.
Troubleshoot and resolve network communication issues.
Provide Level-2/3 support and network troubleshooting.
Implement and maintain network disaster recovery procedures.
Maintain security and networking best practices.
Provide, manage and administer Data Loss Protection (DLP) solutions for egress security across all sites.
Certificate management of network devices and servers
Provide network administration within established configuration and change management policies to ensure awareness, approval and success of changes made to hybrid network infrastructure.
Maintain company security scorecard and remediate vulnerabilities.
Provide security risk reporting.
Implement network security tools, policies, and procedures in collaboration with IT security team personnel.
Act as a vendor liaison for all network related problems and resolution.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA) Certification required.
Cisco Certified Networking Professional (CCNP or higher CCIE and/or CISSP preferred).
Technical Skills & Qualifications:
6 years’ experience in a Cisco Systems network-based environment.
5 years LAN experience.
2 years Cisco Meraki or Dell experience.
6 years Routing and Switching experience.
6 years Wireless experience.
5 years VMware Virtual Networking experience.
3 years Cloud Networking (MS Azure).
Hands-on experience with Cisco and Dell routers and switches.
Hands-on experience with Firewall setup, configuration, firmware upgrades, security, and optimization.
Excellent hardware (physical and virtual) troubleshooting/maintenance skills
Ability to configure, deploy and troubleshoot routers and switches, access points, firewalls, in a LAN, vLAN and WAN environment.
Expert knowledge of Enabling Services like DNS and DHCP management and administration experience.
Hands-on experience with NAS (Dell VxRails).
CompTIA A level IT experience with compute, storage, and peripheral systems.
Knowledge of the Cisco Meraki.
Knowledge of Zero Trust architecture and implementation.
Load balancing, QoS, DDoS protection, network vulnerability management & prevention.
Knowledge of VPN, IPsec Tunneling.
Expert knowledge of OSI and TCP/IP networking, and EIGRP, OSPF, BGP routing.
Must have significant experience creating new and moving existing workloads to the cloud.
Knowledge of Hybrid Cloud networking environment.
Preferred qualifications:
3 years of experience with Windows Operating System and MS Azure Cloud (Hybrid).
2 years of IT Support experience.
Organized and able to prioritize work.
Sound written and verbal communication skills necessary to effectively interface with all levels of leadership.
Experienced working with different operating systems (Windows, Linux, MacOS),hardware (physical and virtual) and network systems.
Desired experience with Windows Systems Administration, Active Directory, DHCP &DNS.
Certification in Microsoft, Linux, Cisco, VMware, Dell, etc.
Experience in technical support, desktop support, or a similar role.
Physical Requirements:
