Taylor Studios is an exhibit design and fabrication firm producing exhibits and experiences within museums, nature centers, libraries, visitor centers, universities, and all sorts of other facilities across the country. We teach content through interpretation and storytelling, and daily strive to inspire others through our designs.
We are seeking a Construction Detailer to join our creative, artistic, and fun group of hard-working designers and fabricators. The Construction Detailer is the bridge between design and fabrication and plays a crucial role in translating the dimensional and aesthetic choices of designers into buildable plans for fabrication. In addition to the technical aspect of creating production documents this position requires extensive collaboration across departments.
Duties Include:
· Collaboration with Fabrication Leads, Project Managers, Estimators, Senior Construction Detailer, and Creative Director to ensure methods and materials are in budget and meet established standards
· Collaboration with design team, consulting on potential production methods and materials, reviewing design drawings, and ensuring key aesthetic choices are maintained and any changes well communicated
· Collaboration with Project Supervisors on order of construction, installation plans, and shipping/site access constraints
· Basic engineering and value-engineering
· Research of materials, methods, and hardware to meet design criteria
· Modeling exhibits in Fusion 360 and producing production documents, including hardware specifications, part sheets, finish schedules, etc.
· Creation of G-Code for cutting parts a 3-axis CNC Router
· Occasional operation of a CNC Router
· Occasional travel for site measurements and installations
Required Skills:
· Solid modelling skills using Fusion 360 or experience in a similar program such as AutoCAD 3D, SolidWorks, Inventor, Revit, Vectorworks etc.
· AutoCAD 2D experience
· Familiarity with standard office software, Excel, Outlook, etc.
· General knowledge of woodworking and construction standards, materials, and methods
· Ability to work within proximity of various types of epoxies, glues, and paints
Bonus Skills:
· Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly InDesign
· 3D printing experience
· CNC operation and maintenance
· Cabinetry, machining, manufacturing, or other related experience
· Electronics and A/V skills
Education:
· Formal CAD training desired (AAS), Engineering Sciences, or applicable work experience. Industrial Design or Product Design backgrounds can also be a good fit for this position.
