DEFINITION OF POSITIONProvide comprehensive counseling services to students, including individual and group counseling. Collaborate with parents, staff, and outside agencies to identify and address barriers to student success. Support students at risk of dropping out and prepare them for college and career readiness.

 

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:  Building Principal

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Valid or eligible Washington State Educational Staff Associate (ESA) certificate with a school counselor or school social worker endorsement
  • Experience working with young adolescent students in public schools or a related setting
  • Training and/or experience in developing and managing Section 504 accommodation plans 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, or a related field
  • Classroom teaching and/or counseling experience 

ESSENTIAL JOB-RELATED ACTIVITIES:

 

Counseling and Student Support:

  • Provide individual and group counseling to students and parents
  • Assist students in developing academic, behavioral, and personal goals, and monitor their progress
  • Support school-adopted programs designed to increase student success and readiness for college and careers
  • Develop and implement academic and behavior plans for targeted students

Collaboration and Consultation:

  • Consult with teachers, parents, and staff to support students’ performance and conduct in school or at home
  • Serve as a liaison between the school and community agencies/resources
  • Collaborate with staff to interpret assessments, intervention strategies, and outcomes
  • Assist faculty in understanding student behavior and implementing guidance activities

Program Development and Compliance:

  • Identify and support College Bound Scholarship-eligible students
  • Write, monitor, and coordinate 504 accommodation plans, including annual reviews
  • Facilitate student transitions from elementary to middle school and middle to high school

School Operations and Supervision:

  • Assist in student supervision and maintain a safe, supportive school environment
  • Support the principal in other assigned duties as needed

  • Build and maintain strong interpersonal relationships with staff, parents, students, and community members.
  • Work collaboratively as a positive team member
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills and consistently meet timelines
  • Exhibit professionalism in appearance, actions, decisions, and overall performance
  • Maintain confidentiality and adapt to changing demands under minimal supervision

 

TERMS OF CONTRACT:

  • Salary: $55,318 - $104,265 per year, placement based on experience and level of education
  • Length of Contract: 1.0 FTE, 180 days plus professional development days
  • Leaves/Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, life and long-term disability coverage is provided through SEBB(School Employee Benefits Board) for employees who work at least 630 hours per academic year. Retirement benefits are provided through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS).  Additional benefits may include sick/ emergency leave and personal leave as per the collective bargaining agreement between the Pullman Education Association (PEA) and the Pullman School District (PEA Bargaining Agreement).
