Adult Basic Ed Instructor

Job Summary

Tec Centro Capital Region is seeking an experienced and passionate Adult Basic Education Instructor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in teaching the relevant GED/HiSet subjects with particular emphasis in Math and possess strong communication skills. If you are enthusiastic about educating diverse adult learners to help them pass the HiSet or GED test, improving their ability to pursue further education or better employment opportunities, we encourage you to apply for this year-round position. This position will be considered for full-time or part-time adjunct employment.

Responsibilities

1. Conduct classes to teach reading, writing, math, science and social studies to help adult learners prepare to sit for the GED/HiSet exam.

2. Provide information, guidance and preparation for the GED/HiSet exam.

3. Observe and evaluate students' work to determine progress, make suggestions for improvement and develop personal action plans for students to achieve the appropriate level of education and preparedness to achieve their educational goals.

4. Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction and experiential learning that provides students with opportunities to learn, actively engage and ask questions or seek support if additional help is needed.

5. Instruct students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions and demonstrations.

6. Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.

7. Communicate clear objectives on lessons or projects to students.

8. Establish expectations and maintain an orderly, nurturing environment that is conducive to learning.

9. Prepare and administer written or oral performance assessments to evaluate progress and maintain appropriate data to report on outcomes.

10. Use computers, audiovisual aids and other equipment and materials to supplement classroom lessons.

11. Prepare objectives and outlines for courses of study, following curriculum guidelines or state requirements.

12. Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs, abilities and interests.

13. Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.

Qualifications

- bachelor’s degree in mathematics, or related field, with teaching experience or equivalent combination of education and experience of at least two years and familiarity with high school equivalency examinations.

- Strong communication skills with ability to educate diverse groups of adult learners by effectively presenting information and engaging with them to achieve successful progress and outcomes.

- Ability to collect and analyze data and compile statistical information to monitor and report on performance

-Ability to work well with others in a team environment and to collaborate to support the best interest of the adult learners

-Ability to work with a diverse population, differentiate classroom instruction to meet the needs of students with learning differences and be culturally sensitive to the needs of learners.

-Excellent work ethics, including attendance and promptness.

-Attend all instructor continuing education requirements, meetings, and yearly compliance evaluations.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $40,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
