JOB SPECIFICATION
SPECIAL DAY CLASS TEACHER
THE POSITION Serves as the classroom teacher for students whose academic, social and/or emotional difficulties preclude placement in regular classroom program. RESPONSIBLE TO: Site Principal EXAMPLES OF DUTIESThe duties listed are typical, but not exclusive:
- Provide learning experiences and teaches the course of study prescribed by the District approved curriculum. Adapts this curriculum, as appropriate, to meet the special needs of students.
- Develop and use instructional materials which address all modalities for use with a wide range of student developmental levels.
- Provide individualized instruction designed to meet the academic and motivational needs of all students.
- Evaluate academic and social growth of students, and keep appropriate records.
- Establish and maintain standards of student control required to achieve effective participation in all activities.
- Communicate with parents through a variety of means. Hold parent conferences to address student progress. Adhere to all mandated timelines for special education students.
- Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, socio-emotional and academic problems.
- Create an effective environment for learning through use of functional displays such as bulletin boards, interest centers, etc.
- Maintain professional competence through participation in professional growth activities.
- Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the objectives, which will form the basis for the District’s evaluation process.
- Cooperate in school-wide supervision of students during out-of-classroom activities.
- Participate in faculty and/or district committees and the sponsorship of student activities, perform duties assigned by the administrator to assist in the function of the school.
QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE
- A valid California credential authorizing service with the selected Special Education classroom.
- Master’s degree in Special Education preferred.
Salary : $62,240 - $138,486
