SUMMARY:
The Lyon Center for Gamebird Research at East Texas A&M University, is recruiting a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate with an interest and background in upland gamebird research. The successful candidate will work with the team of gamebird staff and students from the Lyon Center to contribute knowledge and gain a better understanding of the upland gamebirds of Texas and the U.S. The Lyon Center is dedicated to discovering solutions for sustainable gamebird populations and training the next generation of gamebird professionals.
We are seeking an outstanding scholar who can lead and work with an interdisciplinary research team, with an interest in the organismal response of gamebirds, primarily quail, to environmental stressors. In addition to scientific aptitude, the selected candidate should have a strong record of scientific writing and data analysis as they will play a key role in starting new research, ensuring continuity in ongoing projects, preparing grant proposals and animal use protocols, and publishing scientific reports and manuscripts. Candidate should have experience working with animals, with preference given to candidates with experience working with upland gamebirds in a vivarium and/or laboratory environment. The successful candidate will serve as the point of contact for the gamebird vivarium.
We will work closely with the selected candidate to provide ample professional development, such as opportunities for training, conference attendance, and career counseling, as well as opportunities to mentor students, write grant proposals, analyze and publish research results, and present findings in multiple formats.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducts research in support of the Lyon Center for Gamebird Research
- Prepares grant proposals, animal use protocols, scientific reports, and manuscripts for publication
- Assists with coordination and mentorship of Lyon Center graduate and undergraduate assistants
- Serves as primary contact for Lyon Center vivarium
- Maintains vivarium and laboratory data and records
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: Ph.D. in wildlife or related field.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:
The ideal candidate has experience working with quail or other upland gamebirds in a vivarium or laboratory environment and experience writing grant proposals and scientific manuscripts.
