Under the supervision of the Director and/or Charge Nurse, the Unit Secretary is responsible for performing the receptionist and secretarial duties on the Med/Surg unit while functioning as the focal communication source in the nursing station. This individual should be cheerful, polite, tactful and responsible. Must be able to handle stress well, be cooperative and dependable.
Education: High school diploma or GED
Experience: At least one year of experience in clerical, receptionist, and/or hospital duties preferred. Organization/time management and typing/basic computer skills required.
Licensure, Registration, Certification: Not applicable.
Mental/Physical Requirements: (may be met with or without reasonable accommodations): Considerable mental concentration required to complete duties. Accuracy, thoroughness, and attention to detail required. Standing, walking, sitting, lifting, turning, carrying, stooping, twisting and reaching are required. Must be able to lift 20 lbs from the floor and from overhead, and 40 lbs. from waist height; exercise good body mechanics in execution of essential duties, including appropriate back and neck posture.
Working Conditions: Potential exposure to infectious disease. Frequent exposure to hostile persons at times. Minimal physical discomfort. Frequent auditory distractions. Ability to function under stress required.
