What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Medicaid Associate position at The Brookdale Hospital Medical Center?
Overview
Screens and interviews uninsured patients for the purpose of completing a Medicaid application, which will generate payment for the services provided.
Responsibilities
- Receives referrals, prepares and submits transmittal through MEDE with 4A (2985 & 2921) to Medical Assistance Program (MAP) for clock-in
- Conducts face-to-face interviews with In-house patients or family members in order to procure documents necessary to complete a Medicaid application.
- Completes Medicaid application as per guidelines mandated by the Medical Assistance Program (MAP)
- Accurately collect, verify and record demographic and insurance data.
- Procure and document all pre-approvals and authorizations received from Managed Care Companies, HMO’s and other Health Care plans.
- Prepares transmittal attaching completed Medicaid application for MAP copies to Patient Accounting.
- Updates computer system with submission and decision data received from MAP.
- Refer all incomplete cases to supervisor or manager for review and disposition.
- Refer cases without adequate financial coverage to supervisor or manager for disposition.
- Performs other related duties as requested or assigned that are essential to the overall operation of the department/hospital.
Qualifications
Position Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED
- Knowledge of Medicaid Application Process
- Computer Literate
- Minimum of Two (2) years clerical experience within a hospital or healthcare environment
Language Skills:
- Ability to read and communicate effectively in English
Skills:
- Excellent verbal/written/communication skills.
- Computer Knowledge with word processing and Excel skills.
Physical Demands:
- Involves walking, sitting, talking, hearing, stretching, reaching and bending.
- May include some repetitive motions.
