Job Summary
The Director of Early Learning is a member of the leadership team and will oversee the Early Childhood Education (ECE) program and the Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) visiting program. The ECE program provides childcare and/or homework support for TFPPCS students during their class times (mornings, afternoons, and evenings) and for participants during special events and programs.
Early Childhood Education (ECE)
- Lead the ECE program, which offers morning and afternoon childcare services to TFPPCS students’ children aged 0-4 and evening childcare services and homework support to their children aged 0-12.
- Lead the continuous improvement of the ECE program for the organization, including the program’s planned expansion and future accreditation.
- Ensure the ECE Team complies with all health and safety practices.
- Review, develop, and maintain curriculum and current teaching best practices, ensuring high-quality educational environments with regular assessments.
- Develop and maintain written program policies and standard operating procedures for families, staff, and supervisors, ensuring clarity, efficiency, and consistency.
- Support participants with child related opportunities or issues and collaborate with the case management team when appropriate (e.g. MySchoolDC, summer camp enrollments, toy drive/ donation).
- Develop professional development plans for the Early Childhood Team to keep knowledge and credentials up-to-date and promote growth and skill development.
Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY Home Visiting)
- Lead the HIPPY Team and ensure delivery of high quality services that meet program requirements.
- Oversee and manage compliance with HIPPY US program requirements to meet deadlines, assessments, and data collection.
- Develop and maintain written program policies and standard operating procedures for families, staff, and supervisors, ensuring clarity, efficiency, and consistency.
- Develop professional development plans for the HIPPY Team to keep knowledge and credentials up-to-date and promote growth and skill development.
Leadership and Team Management
- Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and understand the organization’s goals.
- Participate in the hiring and training of departmental personnel.
- Organize and oversee the work and schedules of direct reports.
- Conduct performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
- Handle discipline of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.
- Liaise and collaborate with outside organizations and investors to advance The Family Place DC early childhood and HIPPY initiatives.
- Participate in meetings, serve on committees, and represent the organization in community outreach efforts to promote awareness and stay engaged with our participants.
- Create and maintain reports as required on a monthly or quarterly basis.
- Support the Operations team with the Brief Services program as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Qualifications and Skills Required
- Master’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Management, or related field.
- Must be bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Experience developing and implementing early childhood programs.
- Experience working with a non-profit Board of Directors.
- Experience managing programs in an educational nonprofit environment.
- Experience working with low-income, low literacy, and/or immigrant adults and children in urban settings.
- Demonstrated success in recruiting, selecting, leading, motivating, and coaching a team of teachers.
- Exceptional ability to multitask.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to plan and think strategically.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with ability to communicate well with diverse constituents and staff.
- Commitment to accountability and data-driven decision making..
Reports to: Executive Director
Salary: $80,000 - 100,000based on experience.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Hours: Full time, "Must be able to work 1-2 evenings per week; and available to oversee evening staff. Additional evenings and weekend hours may be required from time to time."
