Position Summary:
The Fitness Assistant is responsible for assisting the Fitness Center Manager with personal training, program scheduling, events, functional fitness and other fitness and wellness programs at the Glenridge on Palmer Ranch (GPR). The Fitness Assistant strives to establish an atmosphere that promotes strong customer relations and customer satisfaction as well as safe exercise instruction and practices.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for assisting Members and guests in adhering to the Fitness Center policies and procedures and equipment use as directed by the Fitness Center Manager.
- Conducts group exercise programs as assigned.
- Inspects and sanitizes all areas and equipment to ensure proper sanitation and safety in accordance with departmental schedules and procedures. Reports and restricts use of non-working equipment in accordance with established policy and procedure.
- Provides first responder assistance in case of emergency or injury. Reports any incidents to Fitness Manager immediately.
- Assists with Fitness Center reception desk coverage during shift.
- Attends and actively participates in all staff meetings and training sessions.
- Keeps all certifications, insurance (if applicable) and CPR certification current and up to date. Provides Fitness Manager with copy of most recent certification certificates.
- Assists with daily operation of the Fitness Center and functional fitness program as assigned. May include posting promotions, event planning, member contact by telephone or in person, functional testing, retesting, and promotional presentations about the fitness center programs. Keeps Fitness Manager informed about program participation and reports any problems or challenges.
- Assists the Fitness Manager in reviewing workshops, special event planning, sessions and group exercise session development, member training and schedules.
- Maintains appropriate record keeping regarding Member programs and issues. Completes functional fitness prescriptions, data entry, follow-up, and Member support.
- Uses good judgment in determining needs of the company and in maintaining information delivery in conformance with recognized standards; and is expected to understand and follow all regulatory and facility policies.
- Keeps current on all changes in their area of responsibility, particularly regulatory changes as they relate to Fitness and other applicable services as assigned.
- Uses good judgment in determining the needs of Members and working with the different departments and in maintaining delivery of those needs in accordance with recognized standards; and is expected to understand and follow all regulatory and facility policies.
- Maintains confidentiality of Members’ PHI (Protected Health Information) and medical records information as well.
- Other various duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must have at least a Bachelors degree in Exercise Science or a related field. A Bachelors degree in a different field may be accepted with at least 5 years of proven professional experience as a massage therapist.
- At least one (1) year experience in the fitness industry or health related post-rehabilitation setting. Experience working with clients in a fitness/wellness and aquatic environment preferred.
- Nationally recognized personal trainer or group exercise instructor certifications required (ACE, ACSM, ISSA, AEA, 0etc.)
- Must be First Aid and CPR certified.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Must be empathetic, enthusiastic and have an affinity for working with a diverse senior population.
- Must be well organized and can work with limited direction, take initiative, and can plan and carry out responsibilities, organizing own schedule and duties to complete responsibilities.
