Overview:
As an essential member of the facilities team at Lawrence Community Shelter (LCS), the Facilities Custodian operates under the guidance of the Executive Director. Tasked with preserving the cleanliness and functionality of LCS facilities, this role is pivotal in implementing proper cleaning protocols to establish a safe and sanitary environment for staff and guests at LCS. The Custodian collaborates closely with colleagues, promptly addresses assistance requests, and maintains a service-oriented approach.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, vacuuming, mopping floors, scrubbing fixtures and walls, and emptying trash to uphold cleanliness standards across LCS facilities.
- Ensure adequate stock levels of essential hygiene products such as toilet paper, soap, and sanitizer are maintained throughout the facility.
- Responsible for the thorough cleaning and sanitization of restrooms, including toilets, urinals, sinks, and showers, to ensure a hygienic environment.
- Clean and treat rooms, beds, and cabins after guests depart LCS, ensuring readiness for incoming guests.
- Skillfully operate floor equipment such as auto-scrubbers, buffers, and other machines to maintain cleanliness and appearance of floors.
- Assist with snow removal and spreading of ice melt around the property during winter months to ensure safe access for guests and staff.
- Maintain and update a list of facility custodian-related supplies, promptly notifying the Deputy Director of any items needed to ensure uninterrupted availability of essential supplies for custodial duties.
- Perform minor maintenance tasks as needed to address any issues within LCS facilities, ensuring the smooth operation and upkeep of the premises.
- Regularly communicate with the Deputy Director regarding any maintenance issues requiring outside expert assistance, ensuring timely resolution.
- Maintain adherence to safety procedures at all times, including compliance with access control regulations, to promote a secure environment for all LCS occupants.

The Custodian will play a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of LCS facilities. Qualifications:Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma/GED.
- Comfortable with working evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Skilled in communicating effectively with staff members and guests of all levels.
- Possess strong interpersonal skills for fostering positive relationships with team members, guests, volunteers, and staff.
- Familiar with common cleaning methods and procedures.
- Capable of handling repetitive tasks for extended periods.
- Experienced in using cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and cleaning solutions.
- Knowledgeable about handling and using cleaning chemicals safely.
- Aware of safety rules regarding occupational hazards.
- Able to lift heavy objects, climb ladders, and work at various heights as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2 years of custodial experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Reasonable accommodations will be provided for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
- Physical capability to travel to designated locations, execute tasks such as standing, stooping, bending, reaching, pulling, pushing, lifting, grasping, and climbing in order to carry out basic duties and engage in light maintenance activities.
- Proficient operation of a motor vehicle in a safe manner for the purpose of transporting oneself, colleagues, and program supplies as required.
- Ability to move, lift, transport, position, install, or remove items typically up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds to meet the diverse needs of the agency or specific events.
- Frequent engagement in stationary positions for extended periods, coupled with the ability to move about and maintain mobility for up to 8 hours per day.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English to effectively communicate.
Miscellaneous Requirements:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and meet LCS’ auto insurance requirements; if applicable.
- Must successfully pass pre-employment background screening.
