Position Summary
The Lodge at Bethany is a forty-eight (48) unit Assisted Living Community (ALC) as defined by Georgia statutes and regulations and is owned and operated as a Not-For-Profit. The Community offers Traditional Assisted Living and Memory Care Assisted Living.
The sitter position will provide support that promotes independence with an emphasis on emotional and social well-being. A Successful candidate will have compassion for and the desire to work with the elderly. He/she will be genuinely concerned about helping people and have high moral standards of honesty and integrity.
In addition to daily meeting the major responsibilities and objectives of the position, the future of The Lodge at Bethany and the assurance of the highest care for our residents depends on a commitment from the Sitter to live The Bethany Way and to embrace the Bethany Values in daily activities and decision making.
- Resident Basic Care:
· Provides general attention to resident needs in accordance with an established Service Plan
· Provides companionship for the Resident by accompanying them to recreational activities, engaging in conversation, providing social and emotional support and assisting them in making informed decisions
· Assists Resident with bathing, grooming, eating, dressing and toileting
· Assists Resident with dining needs including assistance to the dining room as well as in room dining
· Assists Resident with other tasks in room such as organization, etc. as time allows
· Completes room and bathroom cleaning per schedule
· Completes laundry of linens and/or clothes per schedule and as needed
- Resident Safety:
- Participates in in-service, continuing education programs and staff meetings
- Reports suspected abuse or neglect
- Demonstrates an understanding of emergency preparedness planning and response
- Provides a clean, safe, and healthy environment for Residents
- Uses equipment and supplies appropriately
- Maintains confidentiality regarding all resident information
- Complies with all Assisted Living regulations and adheres to policies and procedures of The Lodge
- Communication:
· Establishes effective communication and a professional relationship with Resident and co-workers
· Completes documentation of services delivered and reports on Resident condition in a timely manner
· Reports changes in the resident mental, physical, or emotional condition to immediate supervisor
· Communicates and documents any high-risk behaviors and/or critical incidents

Working Conditions
All employees must be capable of working under the following conditions:
- Must be capable of moving intermittently during working hours;
- May be subject to frequent interruptions;
- Must be capable of interacting with resident, staff, and visitors under all conditions and circumstances;
- May be subject to hostile and emotionally upset resident, family members, staff, and visitors;
- May be called upon to work beyond normal working hours, on weekends and holidays, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary;
- May be subject to call-back during emergency conditions (e.g. severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.) and potentially could be called upon to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations;
- Must be able to and attend and participate in continuing educational programs;
- May be subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB, AIDS, and Hepatitis B viruses;
- May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals;
- Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner;
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position;
- Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with resident, resident families, visitors, and staff;
- Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility which include a medical and physical examination.
In addition, Sitter must also be capable of the following physical demands:
- Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds;
- Must be able to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry residents;
- Must be able to use abdominal and lower back muscles over time without fatigue;
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and walk throughout the building;
- Must be able to bend, stoop, stretch, twist, sit, and reach;
- Must be able to use fine motor skills; and
- Must be able to exercise visual and hearing acuity in order to communicate with the residents in a meaningful and clear manner in order to attend to their needs.
The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach forward with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds and may occasionally lift or move one hundred (100) pounds. The requirements stated herein are an estimate of the overall strength requirements that are considered to be important for an average, successful work performance of the listed position.
