We are seeking a dynamic Airport Manager to coordinate complex administrative, operational, and technical responsibilities. This person will lead the day-to day operations, airport security, supervision and administration duties for the facility. In addition, they will facilitate the safe and efficient operation of the Airport and related airspace, manage a career assistant Airport Manager and many critical non-career staff.Airport Security Practices
- Informs pilots of navigational aids, air space restrictions and radio frequencies in the Washington, DC area.
- Advises pilots of Airport, Federal and State aviation regulations.
- Notifies FAA regarding operational status of Airport with a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM).
- Conducts inspections of facility. Inspects airport grounds and buildings for compliance with contracts, FAA regulations and safety precautions.
- Notifies Federal authorities about suspicious activities.
- Works with National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), FAA, MAA, Park and County police, and medical, fire and rescue squads during emergency and non-emergency situations.
- Select, train, and evaluate airport staff, including supervision of event planning staff.
- Identifies/develops instruction and provides training. Assigns work activities.
- Recommends personnel actions (i.e., recruitment, selection, promotion, transfer and disciplinary). Recognizes and resolves personnel issues
- Keeps staff informed of Commission personnel and management policies and procedures.
- Development and administration of the annual budget request; forecasts funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies; monitors and approves expenditures; and implements adjustments.
- Monitors contractors, vendors, and other professionals when needed for airport improvements, maintenance and repairs.
- Monitors communication systems, utility systems and other services to ensure safe operation of Airport.
- Oversee and manage facility rental for conferences, trainings, special events, meetings, internal gatherings and other revenue generating activities.
- Maintains and keeps website for Airport current and up-to-date.
- Provide key support with CIP projects with advocating for appropriate needs and assisting with managing projects as required.
- Ensure you have a well trained staff with aviation and customer service experience
- Tracks & reviews daily airfield logs; incident and accident reports. Conducts investigations as required.
- Plans and coordinates projects, meetings and airport related events and activities.
- Prepares reports (i.e., administrative, financial, and other necessary correspondence).
- Manager and maintains airport records which include (but not limited to): contracts, leases, inspections, maintenance, permits, and investigations.
- Provides marketing assistance with event planning and flight simulator rental.
- Serves as the airport liaison with other aviation agencies (FAA, MAA, TSA), civic organizations, and local authorities.
- Meets with citizens, community groups, and business groups. May meet with government and aviation-related agencies to identify needs, plan programs, present reports and answer questions about the Airport.
- Investigates and responds to complaints, responds to public inquires or requests of information.
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Aviation Management, Airport Management, or any related field.
- Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in the airport management field.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total eight (8) years.
- Valid driver’s license in accordance with both state and Commission rules and regulations. Driver’s license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee’s ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required by the position of assignment.
- Valid private pilot's license.
- American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) Certification required within 12 months of hire.
- Pass Commission medical examination.
May be subject to medical, drug and alcohol testing.
