Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30am to 4:30pm; some nights & weekends.

Job Summary: The Locksmith I learns and completes preventive and restorative maintenance of door security hardware. Perform preventative and restorative maintenance on locks, including mortise, rim, and cylindrical. Preserves the integrity of the University’s master key system. Maintains panic hardware, locks on containers (desks, file cabinets, display cases, etc.), electro-mechanical locking systems, and other related hardware under normal and emergency conditions.

Additional Department Summary: Regular Hours: Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
On-Call Duties: Required to be on-call outside of normal work hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. May need to adjust to alternate shifts based on the University's needs.

Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and some experience. Ability to obtain basic locksmith certification within six (6) months of hire date.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.

Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.

Skills and Knowledge: Good vision, spatial perception, eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity. Excellent communication skills (oral and written). Ability to utilize judgment in application of departmental policy. Outstanding customer service skills.

A locksmith is a position of trust and accountability as such the successful locksmith must possess and develop traits from the University’s core competencies including: Accountability and dependability, patience, emotional stability, honesty, analytical thinking, accuracy and the ability to get along with other individuals. Personal Integrity with a strong self-development approach, and a team building, collaborating adaptability.

Preferred Qualifications: Technical Skills: Experience or education in mechanical drawing, basic electronics, physics, metalworking, or carpentry. Familiarity with electrical locking systems is a plus.

Advanced Training: Any additional certifications or training in locksmithing, especially in high-security locking systems or safe technology.

Leadership Experience: Previous experience in a supervisory role within a locksmith or maintenance team is advantageous but not required.
