What are the responsibilities and job description for the Research Assistant in Autistic Child Communication position at The University of Manchester?
This research assistant post, is part time (three days per week) for two years, starting on the 1st of April 2025.
This exciting project explores the views of autistic children on their priorities and preferences when accessing Speech and Language Therapy services. They will learn adaptive ways to interview autistic children, many of whom will use non-verbal communication systems. The role will also involve data collection with current Speech and language Therapists, collaboration on data analysis and academic publications, contributions to organising public advisory groups and public / academic dissemination of findings.
The RA will work closely with a team of Speech and Language Therapists, linguistic and autism researchers, some of whom are also autistic. The team are advocates of the neuro-diversity model for framing autism. Full training will be given on research methods and inclusive practices.
The applicant should have a degree in a related subject, be able to travel to visit children in the Manchester / North West UK area, ideally have research or clinical experience working with children especially those with communication differences and be motivated to work in an inclusive environment.
