Job Description
Job Summary:
The Gallery Director assists the Director of the School of Art with overseeing the operations of the Hogue Gallery in Phillips Hall during the academic year. Characteristic duties include:
Essential Functions (Responsibilities):
- Serve as main point of contact for the Hogue Gallery
- Communicating with artists to coordinate exhibition layout, supplies, shipping, travel, etc.
- Assisting the Director of the School of Art with writing artist contracts
- Overseeing installation and de-installation of exhibitions, including un-packing and repacking artworks
- Assist Director with student exhibits off campus
- Designing exhibition layouts
- Overseeing artist submissions for juried exhibitions each year (Annual Gussman Juried Student Exhibition and the forthcoming S. Clark National Works on Paper Biennial)
- Marketing of exhibitions and gallery programming, including coordination of postcard design and mailing, posters, and social media outreach
- Coordinating with the Department Assistant to enter gallery events on the university calendar
- Assisting the Director of the School of Art, Design and Art History to manage the gallery budget Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Knowledge/Skill/Ability
- Experience with exhibition design
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Knowledge of best practices regarding gallery management
Equivalent Education/Experience
- 2-4 years of previous gallery experience
Preferred Qualifications
M.F.A. preferred; bachelor’s degree in art or art-related field is required
