Job Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic, passionate, and responsible Aftercare Coordinator to support our afterschool program. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with children in grades K-8th, providing a safe, structured, and engaging environment. As an Aftercare Coordinator, you will teach physical education (PE), supervise students during afterschool activities, and plan fun and educational crafts, games, and recreational activities. Reporting directly to the Principal, you will play a key role in fostering a positive, active, and supportive atmosphere that promotes the overall development and well-being of the children in our care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach Physical Education (PE): Design and lead fun, age-appropriate physical education activities for students in kindergarten through third grade, ensuring they develop essential motor skills, teamwork, and healthy habits.
- Supervise and Ensure Safety: Monitor children during afterschool activities to ensure their safety and well-being. Actively engage with students while maintaining a secure and supportive environment.
- Plan and Organize Activities: Plan, organize, and implement various afterschool programs including arts and crafts, games, sports, and recreational activities. Activities should be designed to stimulate creativity, cooperation, and physical fitness.
- Behavior Management: Utilize positive behavior reinforcement techniques and strategies to encourage positive behavior and resolve conflicts in a fair and constructive manner.
- Collaborate with Team Members: Work closely with other afterschool staff to ensure a cohesive, well-managed program. Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and administration regarding student progress, behavior, and any potential issues.
- Maintain Records: Keep accurate records of student participation and progress in activities, as well as any incidents or notable observations.
- Foster Positive Relationships: Build strong, supportive relationships with students, promoting trust, respect, and a love for learning and physical activity.
- Ensure Compliance with Safety Protocols: Adhere to all safety guidelines, policies, and procedures, including those related to first aid, emergency preparedness, and child protection.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Related Experience: Previous experience working with children in an educational or recreational setting is required. Experience in teaching, coaching, or supervising children in grades K-3 is preferred.
Skills:
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and connect with children and colleagues.
- Energetic, creative, and adaptable, with the ability to plan and lead activities that are engaging and educational.
- Knowledge of CPR and First Aid; certification required (or must be obtained within a specified period of time upon hire).
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting and independently when necessary
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Some college coursework, particularly in education, child development, or related fields, is preferred.
