How will you make an impact?

This position is within the Fisher BioServices business unit of Thermo Fisher Scientific. The Operations Manager leads the operations of the DMID government contract. This position makes decisions on administrative or operational matters and ensures effective achievement of contract’s objectives. The manager also assists in developing operational procedures while maintaining highest quality assurance standards for operations in a (cGMP) environment. In this role, regular interactions with DMID contracting administrators and Project Director and/or Asst Project Director are required. The Ops Manager will assist repository activities in coordination with the staff for planning, implementing and maintaining costs, methods, and efficiencies.

What will you do

• Lead repository staff in the receiving, warehousing, and shipping of clinical agents, serum samples, and supplies to support clinical trials.
• Lead and maintain physical inventories of products, watch product repass and expiration dates, and maintain stock levels of shipping supplies.
• Coordinate with Quality Assurance in meeting all cGMP standards; provide suggestions for improving policies and procedures in keeping with a continuous quality improvement operating philosophy.
• Meet with clients, vendors, and appropriate departments.
• Ensure Repository is kept secure, in good repair and that all routine housekeeping and equipment inspections are performed.
• Maintain and document facility equipment information within the Maximo system.
• Keep current with the technical and scientific development within clinical supplies area. Support the Assistant Project Director in absence of the Project Director.
• Answer any critical alarms 24/7.
• Must demonstrate and promote our core values, communicate new policies and serve as a Role Model Leader to employees.

How you will get there

• Advanced knowledge of operations/inventory management in cGMP environment.
• Excellent knowledge of pharmaceutical receiving/shipping operations.
• Demonstrate consistency in following established procedures and instructions.
• Requires knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs).

Education

• Requires High School diploma or equivalent. Prefer Bachelor’s degree.

• Requires 5 years operational management experience.
• Requires 5 years in the pharmaceutical field.
• Requires 3 years management and/or supervisor experience.

Certificates and/ or Licenses:

IATA Certification

DOT Certification

TSA Security Threat Assessment

Supervisory Responsibility:

DMID Operations staff.

Work Schedule:

8:00AM to 5:00 PM core hours, additional hours as needed

Work Conditions/Physical Requirements:

• Work in a cold environment with exposure to dry ice, liquid nitrogen cryogenics, hazardous and infectious agents, marked changes in temperature.
• Must use personal protective equipment and implement to safety protocols.
• Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Able to process and handle materials frozen on dry ice (-78°C) or liquid nitrogen (-196°C).
• Work in walk-in freezers or refrigerators periodically.
• Able to use a computer up to 6 hours per day.
• Work in a laboratory and warehouse/repository environment.
• Other duties as assigned
