Job Title: Senior Manager, Managed Services

Reports To: Director, Managed Services - Unity Lab Services North America

Group/Division: IES

Position Summary:

This opportunity will develop and drive strategy for the Managed Service (MS) business within Instrument and Enterprise Services (IES) and to help lead our brand through a period of rapid growth. The ideal candidate will be a critical contributor to the direction of MS as part of the senior leadership team and will have the responsibility for driving profitable growth in the region.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Successfully lead and communicate the vision, mission, and operational objectives for the assigned region. Develop and implement communication plans that drive employee motivation, inspiration, involvement, and allegiance, while meeting the goal of being one of the world’s most admired companies.
  • Meet all commitments and performance targets, while exceeding customer expectations
  • Drive MS strategic plan by providing leadership, innovation and clear direction to achieve organizational goals.
  • Develop and implement business strategies to increase market share, driving expansion for assigned region and creating scalability for future growth
  • Owns and achieves annual operating plans for defined MS engagements in the region that lead to step-changing organic growth, margin expansion and significant product pull-through for other Thermo Fisher Scientific divisions.
  • Lead multiple, distinct teams to drive and enable growth of our MS business and to ensure confidence in our ability to consistently maintain a profitable business.
  • Works in conjunction with Managed Services Director, Commercial Development and local Sales teams to drive account strategy and initiatives for the assigned region.
  • Accountable for creation and sustained use of standard work and management dashboards to quickly and effectively monitor, lead and communicate operational execution and strategic performance of the MS business.
  • Identify new opportunities (market, business, partnership, and collaboration). Develop plans to address these opportunities in the region (includes, but not limited to: Negotiate and approve larger service adds, deletes, change requests and renewals, up to authority limits, applying data and analytics to mitigate business risk and optimize results)
  • Build executive-level relationships with key customers, partners and suppliers
  • Govern and support communications of critical situations at MS accounts where additional support is needed, driving solutions on behalf of the customer
  • Identify and understand the business needs and challenges of our customers, using business analysis, executable recommendations and ongoing consultation based on our unique services and ability to assess markets, customers, competitors and products. Business needs may include but are not limited to: establishing scorecards for SLAs, Key Performance Indicators, accurate inventories, cost savings, value creation, and highlighting continuous improvement/growth opportunities)
  • Ensure contract compliance, review and adjust as needed to maintain or improve expected account top-line/bottom line financial commitments
  • Champion our Practical Process Improvement (PPI) Business System, ensuring leadership in measuring and improving results through a data driven continuous improvement culture.
  • Maintain high levels of customer allegiance using PPI and continuous improvement culture
  • Lead operational and process improvements to consistently improve effectiveness of MS teams within the IES business and their interactions across other areas of ULS and the Company
  • Serve as a Role Model Leader, demonstrating our 4I Values (Integrity, Intensity, Involvement and Innovation).
  • Other appropriate duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific, technical, or business field required. MBA preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years managed services experience (5 years leading a managed service operation, including P&L responsibility) within a multi-cultural, highly matrixed company in a scientific, life sciences, biotech or similar industry.
  • Highly effective leadership, skilled at team building and organizational change
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multiple, intricate functions and appropriately balance resources and investment to achieve common goal of profitable growth and market share gain.
  • Excellent financial analysis and commercial sense, negotiation, and project management skills
  • Exceptional analytics and presentation skills, with the consistent track record to articulate how to use data and provide recommendations to drive value and continuous improvements both internally and customer facing.
  • Ability to maintain focus and timelines in demanding situations, with a demonstrated ability to make decisions within span of control.
  • Experience and comfort with strategy deployment tools and applying PPI, Lean, 6-sigma, or similar tools to drive operational and business improvements.
  • Leadership and interpersonal skills to coach, empower and develop a team. Develop and maintain strong and profitable relationships with vendors and customers.
  • Consistent track record of success in a fast paced, high growth environment, guiding a high-performance team and mobilizing quickly to address issues or capitalize on opportunities.
  • Conceptual and analytical orientation, including intellectual curiosity, creativity and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to evaluate problems and concepts from a different perspective, take data and identify key issues/opportunities and arrive at sound and logical solutions.
  • Strong persuasive and communication skills including an ability to relate well to all levels of the organization. Strong bargaining skills with an outcome where everybody wins mentality.
  • Knowledge of market and industry trends, competitors and leading customer strategies.
  • Strong and demonstrated verbal, written, presentation, and computer/software skills (i.e. Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to travel
