Position Summary
The Engineering Manager will lead and manage a team of Process and Project Engineers to achieve technical and operational objectives. Reporting to the Director of Reaction Chemistry, this role is integral to driving innovation, supporting plant operations, and fostering a high-performance team culture.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical leadership:
- Oversee technical support for production, including troubleshooting and optimizing batch processes.
- Manage the onboarding of new processes to ensure seamless integration.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives for plant operations and processes.
- Lead the design and implementation of new equipment, such as batch reactor systems, piping, and filtration systems.
- Collaborate with the Automation Engineer to establish operational technology guidelines.
- Develop standardized procedures, designs, and specifications for equipment and piping systems.
Team management and development:
- Lead, mentor, and expand a team of Process and Project Engineers to support growth and innovation.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture focused on safety, quality, and innovation.
- Provide technical guidance and coaching to ensure team and individual success.
Cross-functional collaboration:
- Partner with Design, Construction, and Maintenance teams to implement and uphold standards across the site.
- Work closely with Sales, Operations, Planning, Safety, and Technical departments to align engineering efforts with business goals.
- Occasionally deliver technical presentations and provide feedback to customers.
Compliance and safety:
- Ensure compliance with safety and Process Safety Management requirements.
- Participate in and uphold standards for plant management systems, including ISO, PSM, and Responsible Care.
Special projects:
- Lead or contribute to special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Exemplify and promote the “Third Coast Way” fundamental behaviors.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering is required
- Ten to fifteen years of experience in process support and/or process design.
- At least ten years managing a Process Engineering Team in a chemical facility.
- Expertise in batch processing and best practices in chemical manufacturing.
- Strong knowledge of Process Safety Management and handling hazardous chemicals.
Skills and competencies:
- Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to manage ambiguity.
- Proven leadership abilities, including team development and coaching.
- Exceptional communication skills in writing, speaking, and presenting.
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving expertise.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with tools like Aspen Plus or AutoCAD is a plus.
Physical requirements:
- Office setting (60 percent): sitting, walking, and light physical activities.
- Plant setting (40 percent): walking, bending, and lifting or moving objects up to 25 pounds.
