Job Overview:
Train, develop and supervise shipping employees across multiple shifts in our Newton and Brooklyn, Iowa locations. Primary function is to develop a high performing shipping team, coordinating shipments, managing shipping schedules, handling logistics, ensuring inventory accuracy, and ensuring compliance with shipping regulations. Focus is to support an environment of continuous process improvement and optimization, reduce waste and improve productivity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage efficient shipping schedules, ensuring orders are shipped timely and accurately
- Supervise storage of finished goods and raw materials, maintaining accurate inventory balances. Implementing procedures and controls to ensure the accuracy of inventory records while minimizing discrepancies.
- Communicate and resolve potential order and inventory issues by coordinating with other departments including the Sales, Customer Service, Scheduling and Operations teams
- Ensure all shipments comply with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Collaborate with customers and shipping carriers to maintain on-time deliveries and resolve shipping discrepancies.
- Manage shipping vendor relationships, negotiating rates and service agreements.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to streamline processes, enhance productivity, and drive operational excellence.
- Assigns employees to maximize operations and shipping objectives, maintain quality and attain output requirements.
- Provide day-to-day management to team members; including conducting performance reviews, career coaching, and development, providing feedback on met/unmet expectations.
- Educate and enforce safety, quality, and 5S standards and processes, and recommend changes as opportunities arise on the production floor.
- Accurately maintain company records and documents in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Maintains a variety of reports, records and production documentation to reflect shipping schedules and performance.
- Responsible for maintaining the confidentiality and security of employee personal data, documents, and files.
Requirements for success:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Four years of manufacturing/shipping experience
- Two years of supervisory/lead experience
Preferred qualifications for success:
- Bachelor’s degree in business or trade related field.
- Manufacturing, warehouse and transportation experience.
- Lean/Six Sigma or Project Management experience.
- Team and Continuous Improvement Training.
- Good communication skills both verbal and written.
- Excellent computer skills: excel, word, power point.
