Job Summary:
The Material Grinder retrieves material in runner totes from production floor and grinds material throughout the entire shift. This position is also responsible for accurately labeling and separating all scrap to avoid cross contamination of material.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Grind material
- Collect all runner totes in the Molding Department throughout the shift
- Set up and operate standard grinding equipment
- Make sure totes are identified with correct material content
- Correctly identify barrels and gaylords of regrind
- Pick up scrap totes from all machines throughout the shift
- Record grinding production
- Clean out grinders as needed to avoid contamination of materials
- Help floor supervisor with machine operator breaks, if necessary
- Adhere to the Thorgren Tool & Molding quality policy
- Maintain a neat, clean, and orderly work area
- Maintaining grinder cleanliness, which includes blowing out the inside of the grinder when switching material to avoid cross contamination
- Perform other job duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities:

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent, required
6 months – 1 year of relevant manufacturing experience, preferred
Current forklift certification or ability to obtain certification, preferred
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to stand, bend, twist and crouch and lift periodically throughout the shift. Requires considerable use of hands, arms, and legs. Must be able to frequently lift 16 to 40 pounds, occasionally lifting up to or more than 50 pounds and stand, walk and move for long periods of time throughout an 8 hour shift. This is a 40 hour per week job with occasional overtime.
Work Environment:
The ability to perform all work on-site at Thorgren's Valparaiso plant independently. An individual will perform these job duties in a manufacturing environment with moderate to loud noise level within a small area. Potential exposure to varying allergens on a daily basis. Works indoors but may be exposed to different levels of environmental factors, such as heat and cold, dependent upon season. Proper PPE must be worn at all times while performing job duties to mitigate potential risks.
