Position Summary
The Network Engineer I will demonstrate mastery in the areas of networking, security, collaboration, virtualization, datacenters, and systems best practices. The network engineer will be expected design solutions to meet or exceed industry auditing and compliance standards.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Execute and carry out the clients network and server policies by developing and enforcing network and server standards and procedures.
- Leading and participating in logical and physical network and server design.
- Review system and infrastructure designs to ensure efficient use of network and server resources.
- Monitor network and server performance statistics and recommending improvements, advising systems engineers and updating management on networking concepts and techniques, and researching new infrastructure technologies to improve utilization, performance and efficiency.
- Provides implementation and operational support for network, firewall and telecommunications infrastructure.
- Analyze and assess structure and behavior of expanding network systems including interior and exterior routing protocols.
- Participates in IT projects as required and manages IT projects involving the network / telecom environment.
- Assists with data/voice network and upcoming network projects.
- Provide technical analysis of existing or legacy technology in an environment and present modernized networking and security solutions.
- Generates and maintains infrastructure support documentation.
- Performs hardware installation, maintenance and upgrades coordinating with staff and vendors.
- Stay up to date on emerging technologies and products.
- Provide clear communication with regular update/reports to both managers and project managers.
- Troubleshoot problems when necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of commonly used concepts, standard practices and procedures.
- Adapt to rapidly changing technology.
- Effectively document all incidents and requests using a ticketing system.
- Complete tasks with minimal direction.
- Considerable initiative and judgment required.
- Extensive experience with the design, configuration and deployment of voice and data networks including LAN, MAN, WAN, VOIP, TDM PBX, circuits, Cisco routers, Cisco switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, proxy, CSU/DSU and other network infrastructure devices.
- Experience with IP-based phone system / voicemail management and support.
- Experience with the implementation and support of wireless LAN technologies.
- Familiarity with secure configuration of network services such as DNS, WINS, SSH, SNMP, FTP as well as patch management.
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work scheduled hours as defined in the job offer.
Education / Training / Requirements
- Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related field.
- Minimum 1 to 3 years of related experience.
