Position Description
Position Title: H2S Technician
Reports to: Operations Manager / Shop Supervisor
Department: Rental Division
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions**) :
Ø Familiarize and remain cognizant of all drilling activities which could produce and H2S release; ie., well kicks, bottoms up circulation, coring operations, well testing/logging, abnormal well conditions, etc…
Ø Perform all equipment installation, operational checks, and system calibrations.
Ø Check H2S Detection System and perform H2S calibration checks once every 24 hour period and every 12 hours once H2S has been detected. Recalibrate sensors and record that sensor checks and calibrations were conducted.
Ø Insure all 5 minute and/or 30 minute SCBA’s are functional and fully charged.
Ø Insure that all Cascade Air Banks are charged, on-line, and capable or recharging SCBA’s. Check system for air leaks. Insure operability of both Electric and Diesel Air Compressors.
Ø If needed provide continuous monitoring with H2S Mini Check Monitors and/or Detector Tubes.
Ø Maintain a running inventory of location and availability of all Safety Equipment and keep equipment clean.
Ø Be prepared to assess the presence of H2S and SO2 if the Gas Flare is ignited.
Ø Complete Daily Report Logs entries on each day’s activities.
Ø Perform visual and/or functional checks of all SCBA Units, O2 Resuscitators, and clean and sanitize respirator masks as needed. Insure units are properly stored for emergency donning access.
Ø Perform and record Weekly Air Compressor & Air Cascade Air Quality Checks.
Ø Insure proper operation of all Alarm Stations.
Ø Perform inspections and functional checks of all Safety Equipment installed.
Ø Perform routine maintenance on all equipment as needed.
Response Duties
Ø In case of an H2S release, be prepared to don SCBA equipment and perform continuous H2S monitoring until the release is stopped or the order to evacuate has been announced.
Ø Monitor and determine size and scope of the H2S plume and provide recommendations so that proper course of actions can be taken to protect rig personnel.
Ø Insure all Air Breathing System Cascade Stations are placed fully on-line.
Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Preferred 2 years experience as a land based or offshore H2S Technician
- Preferred 2 years experience with oil drilling rig operations
- Preferred Confined Space Entry & H2S Training
- Previous experience with the use of self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA)
- Previous experience with Otis equipment a plus.
- Up to date certifications a plus.
- Basic Computer Skills

Pay: $18.00 - $24.00 per hour
