Position Overview:
The Field Foreman, Maintenance will be responsible for leading General Maintenance Technicians in the field by ensuring that all planned maintenance activities are performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with environmental regulations. The role requires overseeing field maintenance activities, ensuring the quality of work, and managing resources to support the safe execution of maintenance and repair tasks.
As a key leader in the field, the General Maintenance Field Foreman will assist in the development of job packages and repair plans, provide oversight of materials management, and act as a technical resource for the team. This role ensures adherence to quality, safety, and environmental policies and drives continuous improvement in maintenance processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance Supervision & Coordination:
- Lead and oversee General Maintenance Technicians in the field, ensuring that maintenance and repair tasks are executed safely and efficiently.
- Develop, review, and ensure proper execution of maintenance job plans in compliance with plant procedures.
- Coordinate with the maintenance supervisor to plan and schedule maintenance activities, making adjustments based on feedback to improve work processes.
- Monitor the procurement and management of materials to ensure that required parts and tools are available at the correct location for scheduled jobs.
Team Leadership & Performance Management:
- Provide leadership and act as a technical resource for operating and mechanical personnel, ensuring that work is completed according to the highest standards.
- Offer constructive feedback to maintenance technicians, encouraging continuous improvement in work performance and team dynamics.
- Foster a positive work environment focused on safety, quality, and teamwork while upholding the company’s core values of integrity and respect.
Maintenance Operations:
- Ensure compliance with job packages, repair plans, and maintenance schedules in the field, ensuring safe and efficient execution of tasks.
- Oversee the completion of maintenance and repair tasks for various plant systems, ensuring all jobs meet QA/QC requirements.
- Solicit feedback on completed tasks to identify areas for improvement and ensure continuous improvement in maintenance planning and execution.
Safety & Compliance:
- Adhere to and enforce all safety rules, ensuring that all technicians understand and follow safe working practices.
- Promote safety programs and ensure that all maintenance activities comply with company safety policies and procedures.
- Report and communicate any near misses or accidents to the Maintenance Superintendent promptly.
- Ensure compliance with Total-Western’s Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) standards and participate actively in company safety programs.
Material & Resource Management:
- Manage the delivery and use of maintenance materials, ensuring tools and supplies are available for scheduled jobs.
- Collaborate with procurement teams to ensure timely ordering of parts and materials to avoid delays in maintenance activities.
- Maintain accurate inventory levels for tools and materials to support ongoing and future maintenance needs.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Experience:
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in a maintenance craft or planning role and at least 10 years in an industrial environment.
- Strong mechanical background with experience in rigging, pipefitting, and flange management is required.
- Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), such as SAP or Maximo, is preferred, including creating PM plans, work orders, and requisitions.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong leadership and team-building skills with the ability to lead and motivate field maintenance personnel.
- In-depth knowledge of welding procedures and processes, including QA/QC practices.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to provide constructive feedback and lead toolbox talks.
- Proficient in planning, scheduling, and executing maintenance tasks in industrial plant environments.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Proficient in SAP and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
Certifications:
- Technical certifications related to maintenance or industrial operations are preferred.
- OSHA 30 or similar safety training certification is highly desirable.
Work Environment:
This is a field-based role requiring regular travel to various industrial sites. Work environments include both indoor and outdoor settings, and the role may involve exposure to hazardous conditions. The position may require flexibility to work extended hours, including weekends, depending on maintenance demands and project requirements.
Reporting Structure:
The General Maintenance Field Foreman reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor and collaborates with other team members, including engineers, maintenance planners, and procurement teams. This role oversees the performance and safety of General Maintenance Technicians in the field.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Hourly Rate: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
- Union Benefits: This position is represented by the United Steelworkers (USW).
