The Town of Boone Planning and Inspections Department is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Customer Service Specialist. This person will serve as a Planning and Inspections team member within Office Administration. Responsibilities will include a variety of administrative support tasks that support the daily operation of the Planning and Inspections Department; other work as related.
The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude, be able to provide clear, timely, and thorough responses to inquiries, and have familiarity with administrative activities. This person will effectively manage tasks, adhere to deadlines, foster productive working relationships, solve problems proactively, and provide exceptional customer service.
This position reports to the Administrative Coordinator. Work is performed under regular supervision.
This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; and some light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by course work in office management and some experience in administrative work.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of administrative/office procedures, practices, and equipment; Strong written and verbal communications skills; Excellent organizational skills
Strong interpersonal skills for establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff, other departments, elected officials, volunteer boards, and the public.
Ability to learn about the organization of municipal government; Ability to develop administrative responsibilities as serving as a clerk to advisory and quasi-judicial boards.
Strong knowledge of computer programs and applications, which may include Microsoft Office, Internet applications, and database management; and GIS.
Ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously; Ability to meet firm deadlines.

Standard knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, equipment and office assistance techniques;
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Notary Public, Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina.
Salary: $46,670 plus excellent benefits. Town of Boone is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Employee will serve a six-month probation.
