What are the responsibilities and job description for the Thorpe Undergraduate Intern: Plain Language position at Town of Chapel Hill?
We are seeking a Plain Language Intern to help us update a variety of Town communications. This position will involve mostly remote work, with some in-person meetings as desired. The intern will receive training in the Town’s plain language principles and guidance from staff. They will be assigned specific projects with clear deliverables (e.g. internal purchasing guide, human resources communications, policies, and other documents). Candidates with experience or an interest in clear communications are preferred. Familiarity with basic graphic tools (smart art, Canva, tables and charts) is desirable. Some of the tasks that interns will be involved in will include:
- Managing special projects
- Research
- Data analysis
- Creating correspondence
- Conducting surveys
- Clerical work including data entry tasks, filing, copying, etc.
- Be enrolled in an undergraduate program from an accredited college or university
- Possess good oral and written communication skills
- Be proficient with computers and software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Be eager to learn and able to work independently
