The Town of South Hadley is seeking an organized and collaborative individual for the position of Substance Use Prevention Coordinator. This position is responsible for implementing substance use prevention programs, practices, and policies throughout the town to reduce substance use and promote positive health outcomes. The role coordinates activities of the South Hadley Drug & Alcohol Prevention Coalition, collaborating with community stakeholders, and leading evidence-based prevention efforts.
Summary of Responsibilities:
- Coordinate Coalition Activities: Oversee the strategic planning, capacity-building, grant administration, budgeting, and implementation of evidence-based substance use prevention programs for the South Hadley Drug & Alcohol Prevention Coalition.
- Facilitate Meetings and Communications: Organize and lead coalition meetings, committees, and forums. Prepare and distribute agendas, minutes, newsletters, and other materials. Maintain communication via local media and social networking channels.
- Promote Substance Use Prevention: Lead public awareness and educational campaigns. Act as the primary liaison to South Hadley Schools, supporting school-based prevention services and facilitating access to care for individuals at risk of substance use dependency.
- Collaborate with Community Stakeholders: Work closely with town departments, schools, residents, service agencies, law enforcement, businesses, and civic and faith-based organizations to advance substance use prevention initiatives.
- Conduct Data Collection and Analysis: Utilize surveys, focus groups, and other research methods to assess the effectiveness of prevention policies and systems. Leverage findings to guide data-driven decisions and identify innovative strategies.
- Supervise Volunteers: Recruit, train, and manage volunteers, including youth workers and peer leaders, to support prevention efforts within schools and the community.
- Track Progress and Assist with Fundraising: Maintain tracking systems for activities, action plans, and outcome measures. Assist fundraising, grant writing to support sustainable program efforts.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Recommended Minimum Qualifications:
The following may be substituted by equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job:
- Bachelor’s degree in public health, social services, public administration, or a related field.
- 3-5yrs exp. in prevention, health promotion, community organizing, program management or related.
- Strong knowledge of evidence-based prevention models, program evaluation, and data analysis.
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse community members and stakeholders.
- Proven skills in grant writing, facilitation, and public relations.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines independently.
- Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of work.
Status and Compensation:
This is a grant-funded, non-union, non-benefited position; FLSA non-exempt (hourly) and part-time schedule anticipated 8-12 hrs/wk with some flexibility as determined upon offer; anticipated hiring range of $27.82 to $36.00/hr depending on qualifications and subject to availability of funding.
