Responsibilities What you'll be challenged to do : Gannett Fleming TranSystems is seeking a Construction Engineer to support a variety of projects in the Midwest region. This position will be based out of our Kansas City, MO office. The ideal candidate will have significant experience and demonstrated technical excellence in transportation engineering. This position is with our Midwest Construction Services team. A candidate for this position should have strong listening and communication skills with the ability to develop strategies and present concepts and ideas to clients that relay a clear message. Additionally, we are seeking someone with strong leadership skills, is a team player, and takes ownership of their work. The primary types of projects the candidate will be assigned include : Serve as an expert on construction engineering inspection (CEI) services. This might evolve into leading a team of construction inspectors. This would start as a Midwest role and could potentially grow into a national role within the company. Act as a Project Manager or Senior Project Engineer for CEI projects, including responsibility for the budget and task results. Review project pursuit proposals for improvements in CEI and innovations and provide input to enhance project approach and the overall deliverable. Provide team leadership. Plan, organize, and supervise the work of a staff of engineers and technicians. Responsible for client satisfaction, including serving on and Client Service Teams. Oversee discretionary grant applications and planning studies. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing professional networks; participating in professional societies. These activities can be accomplished in person or virtually, if needed. Communication – Speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; Listen and seek clarification; Demonstrate strong and polished presentation skills; Participate in meetings; Write clearly and informatively; Present data effectively. Quality – Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness; Look for ways to improve and promote high quality. Qualifications What you bring to our firm : Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited university. Licensed Professional Engineer in Missouri. At least 15 years of transportation engineering experience. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and / or Boards of Directors. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Demonstrate creativity, foresight and strong engineering judgment in anticipating and solving unprecedented engineering concerns. Actively engage multiple perspectives when solving issues, seek to learn from peers, and encourage reciprocal learning among team members.
