Hourly Wage: $18.75
Schedule: Monday- Friday 8:00am-4:00pm
POSITION OVERVIEW
Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator, the Independent Living Counselor at an Adult Learning Center provides the best possible practices to ensure that persons served and supported attain their personal outcomes and experience a meaningful day. The Independent Living Counselor serves as the implementer of the program encompassing curricula that range from teaching basic skills for independent living, such as health and safety, culinary arts, health, nutrition, and wellness, to more advanced skills needed to find a job, maintaining personal finances, and become more self-reliant. The Independent Living Counselor understands the concepts, practices and techniques of the field of developmental disabilities and provides the necessary documentation of the outcomes of the person served.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides habilitation/treatment experiences of those individuals served in the Adult Learning Centers.
- Will provide assistance to an assigned group as indicated by the Program Coordinator.
- Serve as a substitute group leader as indicated by the Program Coordinator or his/her designee.
- Consult with the Program Coordinator and Qualified Professional staff in matters of habilitation and treatment.
- Completes documentation necessary to report individual progress as well as other reports and forms that are required.
- Responsible for maintaining cleanliness and organization of specified assigned program areas.
- Makes suggestions for improving program effectiveness and efficiency.
- Serves as an appropriate roll model for program participants.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with persons served, co-workers and their supervisor.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Requires a high school diploma or G.E.D.
- Must be able to effectively read, write, and complete those reports that are needed or required.
- Must complete 40 hours of pre-service training and be able to participate in on-going education (in-service experience).
- Excellent human relation skills; requires superior attendance practice and work habits.
- Is able to participate in the development of personal and program outcome measures.
- Maintain a current CPR, First Aid and Safety Care card if required.
- The physical activities for this position involve: balancing, fingering, pulling, pushing, standing, climbing, grasping, stooping, crouching, crawling, kneeling, reaching, lifting, repetitive motion, pushing wheelchairs up to 200 pounds, and lifting up to 75 pounds.
