The Associate Chief Medical Officer (ACMO) reports directly to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and plays a critical leadership role in overseeing clinical operations and supporting quality patient care. The ACMO will lead provider performance initiatives, oversee medical services, and support the development of high-functioning healthcare teams. This position involves managing physician-related activities, ensuring adherence to clinical guidelines, and improving clinical outcomes through evidence-based practices. The ACMO is also responsible for monitoring performance metrics, supporting physician recruitment, and driving the success of key company objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Physician Recruitment & Onboarding: Identify physician recruitment needs and collaborate in the hiring, onboarding, and contracting of medical providers.
- Operations Oversight: Oversee daily operations of all physician services, ensuring quality, efficiency, and patient satisfaction.
- Scheduling & Staffing: Establish work schedules and assignments for medical staff to meet workload, space, and equipment needs.
- Performance Monitoring: Monitor medical performance and ensure the quality of care being delivered meets professional and organizational standards.
- Data Analysis & Reporting: Analyze clinical data, identify performance trends, and develop strategies for improvement.
- Policy Development: Oversee the development and implementation of medical guidelines, policies, and standards of care.
- Compliance & Quality Assurance: Ensure that all clinical operations comply with regulatory standards and internal quality assurance programs.
- Provider Relations: Build strong relationships with specialists, hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and other key partners in the care continuum.
- Utilization Management: Implement and oversee utilization review and disease management programs to meet quality and cost objectives.
- Leadership & Team Development: Build and lead a cohesive team by recruiting, developing, and retaining top clinical talent.
- Community Engagement: Represent the organization in community outreach, public health initiatives, and marketing events as required.
- Cost & Budget Oversight: Maintain accountability for departmental and physician budgets to ensure financial health and operational efficiency.
- Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement: Identify trends of over- or under-utilization and develop action plans to optimize outcomes.
Education
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in group medical management, Independent Practice Association (IPA) management, or clinic operations.
- Previous experience in managing care for Medicare, Medicaid, and Managed Care populations.
- Clinical practice experience of at least 5 years post-residency.
- Previous experience overseeing provider performance, developing clinical guidelines, and supporting operational excellence.
Licenses/Certifications
- Current, active, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in Texas.
- Board Certification in an ABMS or AOA-recognized specialty.
