Job Summary
The Pharmacy Technician assists pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medications and other pharmaceutical supplies to residents of senior living facilities. This position plays a crucial role in supporting the pharmacy team and ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of pharmacy services.
Position is full-time, Monday-Friday, 11:00am-8:00pm.
Key Responsibilities

Medication Dispensing:
- Assist pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medications according to prescription orders, including counting, measuring, and packaging medications.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of medication orders, including verifying prescription details and labeling medications appropriately.

Inventory Management:
- Assist in maintaining pharmacy inventory levels by restocking medications and supplies, checking expiration dates, and rotating stock as needed.
- Perform inventory counts and assist in ordering medications and supplies from wholesalers or suppliers.

Prescription Processing:
- Receive and process prescription orders, including entering patient and prescription information into the pharmacy computer system.
- Assist in managing refill requests, prior authorizations, and medication transfers between pharmacies.

Quality Assurance:
- Perform quality assurance checks on medication dispensing processes to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with pharmacy regulations and standards.
- Report any medication errors, discrepancies, or adverse events to the pharmacist for review and resolution.

Documentation and Recordkeeping:
- Maintain accurate records of pharmacy transactions, including prescription orders, medication dispensing activities, and inventory adjustments.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal pharmacy regulations, HIPAA privacy standards, and facility policies and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a pharmacy technician training program preferred.
- Experience as a pharmacy technician in a healthcare or pharmacy setting is preferred.
- Experience in long-term care or skilled nursing facility pharmacy operations.
- Knowledge of pharmacy laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to multitask.
Working Conditions
- Works in office area(s), warehouse, pharmacy, and some positions work in a long-term care environment (i.e. nursing home, drug rooms, nurses stations, resident rooms, etc.).
- Moves intermittently during working hours.
- Is subject to frequent interruptions.
- Is involved with customers, and customer representatives, family members, residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
- Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.
- Communicate with the designated facility staff, nursing personnel, residents, or family members.
- Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
- Is subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.).
- Is involved in community/civic health matters/projects as appropriate.
- Attends and participates in continuing educational programs.
- Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the workday, as well as reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants.
- Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS, COVID-19, and Hepatitis B viruses.
- May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.
Education
Must possess and maintain any and all necessary active and unencumbered certifications, degrees, or licenses in the necessary state, to the extent the position requires such certifications, degrees, or licenses.
