We have a full-time position available for a Nurse Supervisor reporting to our Chief Medical Officer for our clinic in West Des Moines, Iowa. UCS Healthcare is a CARF-accredited, non-profit health care organization based in West Des Moines, Iowa with additional offices in Knoxville and Ankeny and medication units across the state offering medication assisted treatment (MAT) for opiate/alcohol addiction.

The Nurse Supervisor promotes and restores patients' health by developing day-to-day management and long-term planning of the patient care area; directing and developing staff; collaborating with physicians, mid-level practitioners and multidisciplinary professional staff while maintaining standards for professional nursing/medical practice in the clinical setting. Demonstrates commitment to professional growth and competence. Demonstrates consistently a team approach to care. Maintains the standards of nursing care and implements the standards, policies, and procedures of UCS Healthcare and the Code of Iowa. Operates within scope of practice.

The Nurse Supervisor is expected to operate in alignment with UCS Healthcare core values and act as a team player, providing patient centered services and striving to provide the highest level of care.

Responsibilities include:

Training and Staff Education and Supervision 30%

  • Promotes nursing practices and patient care that is effective in terms of quality, cost and results in patient satisfaction.
  • Develops orientation and training procedure.
  • Manages conflict appropriately.
  • Documents in a timely, accurate and concise manner.
  • Demonstrates commitment to own professional growth and competence.
  • Oversees nursing personnel located at satellite locations.
  • Participates in agency meetings and conferences for the betterment of patient care.
  • Coach and mentor team members; receive and provide feedback in a constructive way that builds confidence within the team; address performance issues as needed in a timely manner.

Patient Care 30%

  • Responsible for staffing issues; covering shifts as needed.
  • Follow all Federal, State of Iowa, and agency policies and laws, including those pertaining to patient confidentiality, including HIPAA/ 42CFR part 2 and CARF requirements.
  • Meets nursing operational standards by contributing information to strategic plans and reviews; implementing productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; identifying system improvements.
  • Implements care in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent and continuous manner by utilization of pre-determined standards and evidenced-based practices that define the structure, process and desired patient outcomes.
  • Documents in a timely, accurate and concise manner.
  • Accurately calls in/e-scribes medications in a timely manner.
  • Resolves patient needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.
  • Assist with clinic operations for physicians and nurse practitioners.
  • Performs venipuncture while maintaining safety standards.
  • Triage phone calls appropriately.
  • Completes and maintains specific training competencies.
  • Respond to emergencies as needed Performs venipuncture while maintaining safety standards.

  • Maintains a clean, safe, and secure environment for patients and staff.
  • Administers medications and evaluates their effectiveness as well as any adverse reactions.
  • Performs efficiently in emergency situations following established protocols.
  • Implements educational materials and evaluates their effectiveness.

Writing, maintaining, and reviewing policy, data and compliance records 20%

  • Maintains nursing guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures.
  • Assists in survey compliance, quality assurance and staff development duties, as assigned.
  • Performs screening, assessment, and data collection in an ongoing and systematic manner.

Interviewing, Selecting and Hiring 10%

  • Accomplishes nursing hiring objectives by assisting in the selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising job contributions; recommending compensation actions; adhering to policies and procedures.

Minimum Required Education Skills and Experience:

  • Current RN license recognized by the State of Iowa Board of Nursing.
  • Demonstrates competence in specified computer applications.
  • Meets consistently the clinic work schedule as designated.

  • Must have strong leadership skills and clinical background.

  • Capable and competent in computer data entry, general program navigation and electronic health records.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • BSN Degree.
  • Two years' experience working with addiction medicine.

Preferred Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Knowledge and experience in MAT policies and procedures.

Physical Requirements: Prolonged sitting and standing, prolonged computer use, ability to lift up to 50lbs and occasional building of furniture or medical equipment. A valid driver's license is required (an Iowa driver's license is required within 30 days of hire) and liability insurance or an equivalent means of personal transportation and coverage as travel within the state of Iowa may be necessary.

Work Schedule: Full-time. Variable days and times, Monday to Friday covering open shifts, sick leave, vacations, and other events when necessary. Salaried employee.
