Position Title: Sushi Chef/Sushi Roller
Reports To: Head Sushi Chef and General Manager
Employment Type: Full-Time/Part-Time
Position Summary
The Sushi Chef/Sushi Roller is responsible for preparing high-quality sushi and other Japanese dishes according to restaurant standards. This role requires precision, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to delivering visually appealing and delicious meals. The Sushi Chef/Sushi Roller will work closely with the kitchen team to ensure smooth operations and maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workspace.
Key Responsibilities1. Food Preparation & Presentation
- Prepare sushi items such as nigiri, sashimi, maki rolls, and specialty rolls with consistency and accuracy.
- Ensure the freshness, quality, and proper handling of all ingredients.
- Follow recipes and plating standards to maintain the restaurant’s style and presentation.
2. Kitchen Operations
- Assist in preparing ingredients such as cutting fish, vegetables, and making sushi rice.
- Maintain a clean and organized workstation at all times.
- Work efficiently during peak hours to meet customer demands without compromising quality.
3. Compliance & Safety
- Adhere to all food safety and sanitation guidelines.
- Monitor and report any issues with food quality, kitchen equipment, or hygiene standards.
- Ensure proper storage and labeling of all ingredients.
4. Team Collaboration
- Work closely with other chefs and kitchen staff to ensure timely service.
- Communicate effectively with the Head Sushi Chef to handle special orders or modifications.
- Support the team by assisting in non-sushi-related kitchen tasks when needed.
Qualifications
- Experience:
- Previous experience in a sushi restaurant or Japanese cuisine is preferred.
- Familiarity with sushi preparation techniques and tools is required.
- Skills:
- Strong knife skills and understanding of sushi preparation.
- Ability to work quickly and efficiently under pressure.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to food quality and presentation.
- Other:
- Knowledge of food safety regulations.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and work in a fast-paced environment.
