GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Under the general direction of the Executive Director, Counseling Center, the position of Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) carries a full clinical case load and provides psychiatric services in a setting that offers time-limited therapy; with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across cultures and with clinical and non-clinical colleagues, campus departments and student groups; and the ability to provide outreach/consultation to campus constituents on a range of mental health issues This position meets regularly with professional colleagues to assess, diagnose, and plan treatment and disposition of cases. The APRN is expected to perform his/her duties conscientiously and responsibly; to adhere to high personal standards of behavior with students, colleagues, members of the University community and clients of the University; and in a manner consistent with the ethics of his/her own profession. This person is expected to keep himself/herself informed of current research and professional developments in his/her professional field. Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF attachments are required. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Position reports to the Director of the Counseling Center in matters relating to clinical work as an APRN. Providing general psychiatric assessment, medication evaluation and follow-up services for university students. Providing crisis intervention and emergency psychiatric assessment and medication evaluation services for university students. Providing psychiatric consultation services to Counseling Center staff, student groups, faculty and staff within the university community. Participating in psychological emergency, crisis intervention and trauma response. Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient’s age-specific needs. Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities Monitors the effectiveness of interventions. Providing training experience to doctoral interns, practicum students and other trainees Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals. Must be available for crisis intervention and emergency situations that may arise during regular working hours and be on-call on a rotational basis to promptly respond to requests by University staff members for assistance when the Counseling Center is not regularly open. Complete records punctually according to record keeping/report writing procedures that are currently operative at the Counseling Center and required by legal and ethical regulations. Review on a regular basis the nature and state of individual caseloads with the Associate Director for Clinical Services or Director. Consult with the Associate Director for Clinical Services or Director about clients who are suicidal, homicidal, severely depressed, anxious, acting out or showing a high probability for acting out, psychotic or borderline psychotic, manifesting a high degree of psychopathology or expressing such extreme problems in living, whereby good clinical judgment would dictate initiating the supervisory process. Preserve the confidentiality and trust of clients while at the same time promote the best interest of the University and adhere to its recognized rules of procedure. Whenever it is ethically and legally permissible and in the best interests of the client or the University; cooperates with other appropriate staff of the University in cases or issues of mutual concern. Submit all service reports, or other communications involving the clinical operations of the Counseling Center which are intended for persons, departments, or agencies outside of the Counseling Center for review and approval of the Director or Associate Director of the Counseling Center before transmitting them. All Counseling Center Staff are required to participate in educational, outreach and prevention programs originating from the Center. This may take the form of developing such programs oneself or accepting assignments to supervise or participate in such programs. Staff clinicians are required to regularly consult with and keep the Assistant Director for Outreach, Director, or Associate Director informed about participation in such activities. The person holding this position is expected to lead a minimum of two such programs each semester. These programs include activities originating from and under the supervision of the Counseling Center’s Assistant Director for Outreach or staff who intend to bring the Center’s services and the skills of the professional staff to members of the student body and the University community. Establish liaison relationships with relevant student clubs and campus departments. Participate annually in at least one Student Affairs social activity such as volunteering at the graduation ceremonies as a monitor. Performs other related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated ability to provide psychiatric services (clinical assessment, crisis intervention, and psychiatric assessment). Demonstrated ability to provide outreach and consultation to a multi-culturally diverse university community. Demonstrated commitment and/or expertise in working with a diverse student body, cultural competence, and attunement to the influence of cultural backgrounds, identity configurations, and other differences on mental health attitudes, stigma, and help-seeking behaviors. Knowledge of current and emerging college-age mental health issues, and experience in working in a college or university mental health setting. Ability to interact with college-age populations, international students, parents, faculty, and college administrators. Demonstrated talent for collaboration; able to establish and maintain trusting, working relationships that reflect kindness, mutual respect, and honesty, with a highly diverse population of student, staff, and internal and external partners. Ability to foster a culture of collaboration and trust while ensuring that confidentiality and other legal and ethical mandates are maintained to the highest standards. Excellent written, verbal, and computer skills. The successful candidate will be a generalist with a demonstrated commitment to working with a diverse student population. Applicants with demonstrated commitment to working with particular student groups or presenting problems (e.g., multicultural specialist, men of color, triage and crisis management, suicide prevention, men’s issues, sexual abuse and trauma, DBT, and international students) would have opportunities for development. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Must have completed an accredited Advanced Nurse Practitioner (APRN) training program and be licensed as an APRN in the State of Florida and have an Autonomous Practice credential.
