Union Rescue Mission (URM) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area. We are dedicated to serving men, women, and children experiencing homelessness and providing comprehensive emergency and long-term services to help them escape the dangerous streets of Skid Row. Established in 1891, URM is now one of the largest rescue missions of its kind in the United States and the oldest in Los Angeles. DIRECTOR OF CHURCH RELATIONS & PARTNERSHIPS POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Church Relations & Partnerships will play a pivotal role by engaging with pastors and church communities to support the URM’s mission through volunteer service, collaborative initiatives, and fundraising. This position involves building and nurturing relationships with local pastors and churches, and inspiring them to contribute time, talent, and treasure to the cause through various fundraising efforts that will support the URM’s programs and services. 

DIRECTOR OF CHURCH RELATIONS & PARTNERSHIPS CORE WORK PRINCIPLE:

DIRECTOR OF CHURCH RELATIONS & PARTNERSHIPS ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Church Engagement and Relationship Building

• Develop and implement strategies to build and sustain strong, meaningful relationships with pastors and church communities.
• Coordinate and facilitate regular meetings, presentations, and visits to engage and fellowship with church leaders and congregations.
• Promote URM’s mission and service opportunities to church communities encouraging volunteerism and active participation.

Fundraising and Development

• Design and execute fundraising campaigns targeting church communities, including major gifts, planned gifts, crowdfunding, team fundraising competitions, and grants.
• Partner with church leaders to organize and host fundraising events and initiatives.
• Identify and cultivate relationships with potential major gift donors within church networks.

Community Outreach and Advocacy

• Serve as a liaison between URM and church communities, advocating for the needs of our homeless neighbors and promoting URM’s programs.
• Collaborate with church leaders to integrate URM’s mission into church activities and community outreach programs.
• Develop educational materials and presentations to raise awareness about homelessness and URM’s services and impact.

Administrative and Reporting

• Maintain accurate records of church contacts, engagements, and fundraising activities using Salesforce.
• Prepare regular reports on church engagement metrics and fundraising outcomes.
• Assist in the preparation of major gift and grant proposals and reports related to church funding sources.
• Conduct other tasks and projects assigned by the V.P. of Development & Social Enterprise.

• Encourage guests in their faith and growth in Jesus Christ

• Travels as required.

DIRECTOR OF CHURCH RELATIONS & PARTNERSHIPS WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Requirements

DIRECTOR OF CHURCH RELATIONS & PARTNERSHIPS EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND LICENSURES:

• Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business, Communications, Theology, Church Relations, or a related field.
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, or church engagement, preferably within a church or Christian non-profit context.
• Proven track record of successful fundraising and relationship-building with church communities.
• Master’s degree in Ministry, Divinity, Theology, Pastoral Care, or a related field, preferred.
• Ordained pastor with a strong understanding of Christian theology and church operations, preferred.
• Experience growing church membership and finances preferred.

DIRECTOR OF CHURCH RELATIONS & PARTNERSHIPS KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Leadership: Passion for URM’s mission and strong commitment to serving the homeless and marginalized communities; Ability to lead and inspire church communities towards collective action and support for Union Rescue Mission. 
• Fundraising Expertise: Skilled in various fundraising techniques and knowledgeable about donor cultivation and stewardship; Proficiency in donor management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills tailored to diverse audiences; Excellent interpersonal skills and presentation skills.
• Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail; Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• Strategic Thinking: Ability to develop and implement effective engagement and fundraising strategies.
