Leading Metals Recycling Company seeks a seasoned Maintenance Manager. The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day maintenance operations for the company’s fleet of 30 trucks and 10 key assets, including material handlers, forklifts, stationary shears, and balers. This hands-on role involves managing a team of 10 direct maintenance reports while ensuring that all vehicles and heavy equipment are operational, efficient, and compliant with safety regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both fleet maintenance and heavy equipment repair, with a focus on troubleshooting, leadership, and effective communication.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of maintenance technicians, ensuring high performance and skill development.
- Develop and implement work schedules, ensuring that maintenance tasks are carried out promptly and with minimal disruption to operations.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, provide coaching, and foster a collaborative and safety-focused team environment.
- Oversee and personally participate in the maintenance, repair, and inspection of trucks (including fleet vehicles, trailers, etc.) and additional critical assets (material handlers, forklifts, stationary shears, balers, etc).
- Ensure preventive maintenance schedules are followed for all vehicles and equipment to reduce downtime and extend the lifespan of assets.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on trucks and heavy machinery, coordinating repairs and ensuring minimal operational disruption.
- Lead and assist with the diagnosis and repair of complex system failures, ensuring that issues are identified and resolved quickly.
- Maintain a safe working environment by ensuring all work is conducted in accordance with OSHA, DOT, and other regulatory standards.
- Regularly audit maintenance operations to ensure compliance with safety protocols and industry standards.
- Develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for safe maintenance practices.
- Manage the inventory of parts, tools, and materials required for fleet and equipment maintenance, ensuring availability of necessary supplies without overstocking.
- Monitor maintenance costs and help develop and manage the department’s budget, identifying opportunities for cost savings.
- Source and negotiate with vendors for parts, equipment, and specialized services as needed.
- Work closely with operations leadership to identify opportunities for equipment upgrades or new equipment purchases to improve operational efficiency.
- Propose and implement continuous improvement initiatives within the maintenance department to enhance productivity, reduce downtime, and improve asset reliability.
- Collaborate effectively with operations, production, and safety teams to ensure seamless operations and rapid response to maintenance needs.
- Maintain clear and detailed maintenance records, reports, and documentation for all repairs, inspections, and maintenance schedules.
- Provide timely updates on asset performance, upcoming maintenance, and repairs to senior management.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in fleet and heavy equipment maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
- Proven experience in the maintenance of trucks, material handling equipment, and industrial machinery, including stationary shears and balers.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues quickly.
- Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to motivate, coach, and manage a diverse team.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with all levels of the organization.
- Knowledge of OSHA and DOT regulations, as well as safety standards related to equipment maintenance.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on environment and be flexible with changing priorities.
