Part-Time Accounting Assistant
Summary:
United Parents is searching for an experienced part-time accounting assistant to join our team and help keep our finances positioned for continued success. The Accounting Assistant will not only understand current accounting practices and trends, but also will have experience of raising capital and adapting to change, whether it’s through growth or downsizing. The accounting assistant will work closely with the Controller, Executive Director and Board of Directors to develop and implement financial strategies that support the organization’s mission and goals.
Essential Functions:
· Ensure all financial operations comply with federal and state laws
· Present monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements to executives and board of directors
· Coordinate audit activities
· Assist with bi-weekly Payroll
· Processing accounts payable.
· Set up automatic drafts/payments for all recurring payables
· Daily online bank feed reconciliation and month end bank reconciliation for all bank accounts and credit card accounts
· Represent the company to investors and public officials
· Responsible for cash management, investments, insurance, budgeting, and financial reporting, and help drive the company’s financial strategy.
· Coordinate development of annual operating, capital, and program budgets, as well as reporting for the same
· Ensure cash flow is compatible with operations by assisting with day-to-day accounting, recording, reporting, and internal-control activities of the organization
· Develop and implement best practices and tools to ensure a well-controlled yet flexible organization that has strong fiscal management, project coordination, cross-team communications, and workflows
· Comply with national and local financial requirements by studying existing and new legislation and taking appropriate action
· Work with Executive Director to efficiently develop budget proposals, provide access to project finance information, and ensure contract/grant compliance and reporting
· Research revenue opportunities and economic trends, analyze internal operations, and identify areas for cost reduction and process enhancement
· Perform risk management through analysis of company liabilities and investments, and evaluate and manage capital structure and fundraising initiatives
· Coordinate with external service providers (ex: payroll, benefits, insurance, auditors, banks)
· Other duties, as needed
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None
Required Skills and Abilities:
· Three or more years of experience as accountant in a nonprofit organization
· Hands-on experience with Quickbooks
· Excellent leadership skills, with steadfast resolve and personal integrity
· Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skills
· Ability to explain financial terms in simple language
· Passion for the mission and work of the organization
· Passionate interest in working as a team
Preferred skills and qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in accounting, business accounting, or finance
· Professional certification (ex: Certified Public Accountant)
Job Requirements:
Must be able to sit for long periods of time
Able to lift up to 20 pounds
Clean DMV record
Schedule: 25 hours/week with the potential for full-time position
Benefits/Pay: $40/hour.
Generous (prorated) paid time off includes:
14 holidays plus Holiday closure (Christmas Eve through New Year’s Day)
