What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety and Training Associate and Incident Analyst position at United States Parachute Association?
Summary: The Safety and Training Associate and Incident Analyst will support the Director of Safety and Training handling daily operations. They will also focus on redacting incident and fatality reports, following up on reports when additional information is necessary, and drafting conclusions and articles for internal and external publications. The role will also involve ensuring the accuracy of database entries and assisting with Safety and Training-related research and compliance inquiries.
This position requires working from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday-Friday with one hour lunch. The typical work week consists of 7 hours per day, 35 hours per week. The position requires working on-site at the United States Parachute Association headquarters in Fredericksburg, VA. Remote work is not possible for this position.
Standard Safety & Training Associate dutiesinclude the following:
- Retrieve, print, answer, process or distribute safety@uspa.org incoming emails.
- Produce lists, reports, letters, labels, copies, scans, e-mails, faxes, and research as needed to perform core responsibilities.
- Establish, develop, maintain and update filing systems for the Safety & Training Department and separate filing systems for fatalities and incident reports. . Retrieve and analyze information when needed.
- Evaluate core responsibility systems and recommend solutions and improvements for greater efficiency.
- Conduct research, retrieve missing archival information, present findings, and enter findings into the database for investigations.
- Assist Member Services with daily phone, processing applications and floor coverage.
Standard Safety& Training Incident Analyst dutiesinclude the following:
- Review submitted incident reports from USPA members and affiliates and redact any personal or sensitive information such as names, dates, and locations.
- Rewriting submitted incident reports for publication on the USPA website and selecting reports to be featured for publication in Parachutist magazine.
- Categorizing each incident according to the event's type, cause, severity, and outcome and maintaining a database of all incidents.
- Preparing monthly and yearly reports that summarize the number and nature of incidents and highlight any emerging trends or patterns that need attention or intervention.
- Writing three safety or incident articles based on the most common or significant trends each month for different audiences and platforms:
- A 50–150-word article for the USPA Professional, which is produced for professional-rated skydivers and provides a brief overview of the latest incidents and trends.
- A 50-100-word article for the USPA Update, produced for all jumpers of all experience levels but primarily read by less experienced jumpers, and offers some tips and advice on how to avoid or mitigate common risks.
- A 600-800-word article for Parachutist magazine, the official publication of USPA, provides a more in-depth analysis of featured incidents and trends and some best practices and recommendations for improving safety standards and culture.
- Conduct follow-ups on investigations, liaising with Safety and Training Advisors (S&TA), Regional Directors, and compliance groups as necessary.
- Maintain and manage the Safety and Training department's database of incidents and fatalities, ensuring that all records are up-to-date, accurate, and accessible.
- Respond to member and advisor inquiries regarding compliance, incidents, and safety procedures, escalating to the Director of Safety and Training when necessary.
- Monitor incident report trends and recommend proactive safety measures and initiatives.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Previous or current experience as a skydiver, with a strong understanding of skydiving technique, rigging, safety protocols, and industry practices, is essential. Education/Experience:
College and work-related experience preferred. Familiarity with USPA's rating system and skydiving experience is highly valued.
Language Ability:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, members, and the public.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should know Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook and understand databases.
