Basic Job Summary

The Director of Finance for United Way of Acadiana has overall responsibility for supervising employee benefits administration, organizational accounting and budget management, payables and receivables, cost analysis, risk management, oversight of the recording and tracking of donations, pledges designations in the subsidiary ledger, contracts review and procurement of services and products. The Director of Finance manages financial resources in an integrated and strategic framework and provides strategic guidance to the CEO relative to asset protection, risk management and financial trends. This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.


Duties and Responsibilities

A.    Fiscal Management

1.     Provide expertise in financial planning, accounting practices, reporting and budget management in compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements, including the policies and procedures outlined in United Way of Acadiana’s Financial Policies and Procurement Policies.

2.     Oversee the annual audit process and work closely with the independent auditors throughout the audit process.

3.     Monitor cash flow and provide trend analysis and forecasts quarterly or as needed.

4.     Ensure all aspects of the financial management of the organization are done timely, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, employment compensation, payroll deductions, 403(b), IRS reporting, monthly bank reconciliations, cash reports, journal entries, budget vs. actual, general ledger, year-end rollover, and reconciliation of balance sheet account.

5.     Ensure United Way of Acadiana utilizes its resources effectively and efficiently by performing cost analysis on major investments, products in development and purchases as needed.

6.     Prepare budgets for all grant applications and programs in consultation with the CEO.

7.     Provide support and reporting to all councils, committees and partners of UWA as it relates to financial matters.

8.     Ensure high internal controls with appropriate separation of duties for all cash management, financial transactions and functions.

9.     Ensure adequate procurement controls are installed, oversee all procurement activities and ensure that substantiating documentation is approved and available such that all purchases may pass independent and governmental audits.

10.  Ensure that all journal entries are accurate through a regular review and approval process.

11.  Serve as a supervisor to contract workers as needed to ensure proper recording of receipts by donor, by company, by campaign year, and by designation.

12.  Maintain a secure management system for receivables for workforce campaigns, capital campaigns, major donors/investors, grants and other resource development efforts.

13.  Work with CEO on budget planning, re-allocations and budget overruns.

B.    Risk Management

1.     Recommend to the CEO the purchase of comprehensive insurance protection to include general liability, worker’s compensation, directors and officers, unemployment, content and personal property insurance. Ensure these policies are reviewed and renewed on an annual basis following UWA procurement standards.

2.     Immediately advise CEO on any immediate risk that presents related to finances, assets, or personnel.

3.     Maintain copies of tenant insurance policies with United Way of Acadiana as an additional named insured.

C.    Office Procedures and Systems

1.     Extensive Skills in the utilization of Microsoft Excel.

2.     Ability to interpret and implement not-for-profit accounting in accordance with the U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, OMB Circulars, Code of Federal Regulations, program regulations and compliance requirements.

3.     Ability to analyze and explain monthly financial reports including the balance sheet, reconciliations, financial statements and cash flow projections for use by the Leadership Team, as well as the Operational Excellence Committee and Board of Directors.

4.     Execute special projects and assignments as needed.

5.     Provide excellent customer service for volunteers, donors, and partners including relationship building with committee volunteers and their admins

6.     Creates an atmosphere that respects and embraces engagement of all people, ideas and backgrounds and aligns with United Way’s values.

D.   Teamwork/Leadership

1.     Active participant in Leadership Team

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required

Experience

At least 5 years’ experience in financial management, or administrative systems supervision preferred


Requirements Before Hire 


Bachelor’s Degree in related field of study.  

Proof and maintenance of a valid driver’s license  

Proof and maintenance of Vehicle Insurance and reliable transportation  

Must pass a Louisiana State Police Criminal Background Check.
