POSITION SUMMARY: The Technician plays a vital role in gathering and providing essential patient data for the doctor to deliver proper care. Their responsibilities include administrative tasks, conducting tests, scheduling appointments, preparing exam rooms, and assisting doctors during examinations. They are responsible for maintaining quality standards within the practice and ensuring effective communication with patients.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare patients for eye examinations
- Perform all preliminary and any doctor requested tests on all patients.
- Assist optometrist and ophthalmologist with patient procedures.
- Coordinate patient scheduling
- Monitor patient flow throughout the office, properly communicating delays.
- Prep exam room by cleaning instruments and maintaining inventory of medications and supplies.
SUPPLEMENTARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Depending upon the patient volume and/or patient flow, you may be required to perform the following tasks.
- Dispense contact lenses and perform contact lens progress checks.
- Assist patients in the selection process of spectacles, and the delivery and fitting of patient spectacles.
- Assist with answering the telephone, scheduling appointments, and effectively maintaining appointment books for doctors, as well as assist in completing recalls.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Previous medical office experience is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT (per ADA guidelines):
- Physical Activity: Standing for sustained periods of time, Stooping, Grasping, Lifting, Talking, Hearing.
- Physical requirements: Light work. Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs. on a regular basis from floor to waist, 5 lbs. from waist to shoulder, and 5 lbs. from shoulder to overhead.
- The worker is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT:
- Staff members are required to meet training expectations within the initial 90-day probationary period.
- Obtaining certification through an optometric certification program is encouraged. MWEC will provide assistance to all employees eligible for the Employee Career Development Program.
