POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrates technical expertise in the operation of all equipment utilized in the non-invasive cardiology laboratory. Ensures quality, efficiency, and safety in the performance of all patient procedures. Has knowledge of thoracic anatomy, especially heart position; of dynamic internal structural anatomy of the heart and component functions; of cardiac pathology and how it alters heart position and internal structural detail. Knows the basic principles of M-Mode, 2-Dimensional and Doppler Ultrasound. It is capable of interrelating knowledge of cardiac anatomy and pathology with that concerning the operation of ultrasonography to produce diagnostic quality 2-D images and doppler frequency shift recordings.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
An American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or Cardiovascular Credentialing International credential is required. New graduates must complete these required credentials within six months of hire. New graduates pending required credentials will work under the supervision of a registered Cardiac Sonographer. A Bachelor's Degree in a related field is preferred. One year in the performance of Echocardiographs and Doppler Ultrasound; working experience in EKGs, Holter Monitoring, and scanning, and exercise tolerance tests is desirable. Two (2) or more years of preferred experience.
