    About the opportunity :

    The Centre for Applied Water Science (CAWS), has a 2-year research position available to work as part of a team of riparian and wetland vegetation ecologists. The successful candidate will be integrated into existing research programs as well as having opportunities to develop and contribute to developing new areas of research.

    The successful candidate will be expected to take a leading role on existing and new research projects and initiatives, work in the field often in remote locations, analyse and interpret data, and write reports and scientific publications.

    Key Responsibilities :

  • Conduct ecological research, monitoring and evaluation in freshwater ecology.
  • Utilise advanced statistical techniques to analyse complex ecological datasets.
  • Prepare scientific reports and publications.
  • Collaborate on research programs from local ACT river systems to the Murray Darling Basin.
  • Requirements :

  • A doctoral qualification relevant to one or more disciplines including freshwater ecology, environmental flows ecology, plant ecology, or river-floodplain ecology.
  • A record of proven research achievements (publications, reports, grants).relevant to their area of expertise at a national and international level.
  • Experience contributing to vegetation focused research, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated high level written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to analyse complex data sets.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work both independently and collaboratively, in a team.
  • Willingness to conduct fieldwork in remote locations.
  • Valid driver's license with 4WD experience.
