The Physical Therapy Technician assists physical and occupational therapists, exercise physiologists, and students in the preparation for and delivery of physical and occupational therapy services/procedures/interventions. The Physical Therapy Technician maintains environment of care in a clean and safe manner, according to departmental policies and maintains routine supplies in therapy areas.
Essential Job Functions
- Prepares patients, equipment in all areas for treatment as assigned which includes taking and recording vital signs, patient transport/escort and transfer assistance.
- Assists in the delivery of unskilled physical and occupational therapy services under the direct supervision of physical and occupational therapists, exercise physiologists, and students.
- Maintains equipment/supply inventory by requesting supplies from management staff, stocking and assessing/adjusting par levels.
- Cleans equipment and work areas consistently to meet all regulatory guidelines; assesses equipment regularly to assure compliance with clinical engineering calibration; checks and submits work orders as necessary to maintain safe and proper functioning of equipment.
- Assists in the hydrotherapy area with the application of clean/sterile dressings, preparation and cleaning of whirlpools and surrounding areas.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- CPR certification/BLS Health care provider.
- Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care which is age specific/appropriate for the types of patients served.
- Appropriate interpersonal skills to enable positive interactions with patients/families, the multidisciplinary team and external contacts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in direct care of persons in a healthcare setting desirable
